Mr. Granneman,
Thanks for your response.

1. Regarding the docket summary that you posted; ACORN does not appear as a plaintiff. None of the summaries of this case mention ACORN at all.

Also, this case concerned *racial* redlining. It established that the plaintiffs were as equally financially qualified for a loan as Citibank's white customers. The settlement required that Citibank waive application fees for those applicants who wished to reapply for previously denied...

Mr. Granneman,
Thanks for airing your views. I wonder if you could give a little more detail to your following claims:

1."...senator frank and acorn are largely responsible for our current economic situation..." I was under the impression that very large banks and insurance companies were leveraging trillions of dollars using exotic collateralized debt obligations; specifically credit default swaps, at ratios that routinely exceeded 30 to 1, and in the case of Bear Stearns may...

So Bachmann snuck a bit of red meat past Frank? Her amendment is clearly unconstitutional, misses its target and will be buried shortly. I suspect she knows all of this.

What she gets is a fresh megaphone to rail about some of the favorite bogeymen of the right. Google -Bachmann Frank-; the list of right-wing pseudo-news outlets that are echoing and adoring her is already very long.

Does anyone know what she refers to when she claims that her amendment uses the same language...

As you said, the standard for equal protection is much higher for "rights" than for "privileges". If the court accepts Coleman's equal protection argument for absentee ballots based on such weak tea, the logical extension of that reasoning would preclude a "legal" election from ever being held in Minnesota.

Thousands of polling places, thousands of election workers and thousands of different voter circumstances would--quite literally--make compliance with such a standard impossible....

re:
"...excruciatingly self-righteous and seemingly in thrall to the totalitarian impulse..."

and

"...an alarming propensity to cater to the most irresponsible elements of party in which extremism seems to be a growth industry."

I have always found a mirror to be a useful thing. You might take another look at these descriptions and see what you find looking back at you.

Wasn't it just last week that Bachmann was making a floor speech in the House, demanding Napolitano's resignation over some manufacured outrage or another? I imagine that Napolitano and the DHS will do everything they can for Bachmann's constituents--in spite of her.

Specter will have to support the Democratic caucus on key votes, or he will end up with a formidable Dem primary opponent next year. Joe Torsella and Patrick Murphy have solid organizing and fundraising behind them, and both have indicated an interest in Specter's seat.

As a Republican, Specter could not support EFCA. As a Pennsylvania Democrat, he will almost certainly have to support it. Let's hope the MN SC is clear about what they expect Pawlenty to do in the wake of their ruling...

I would not want to be a state legislator trying to solve this problem. It is interesting that instead of trying to contribute to the solution, the GOP is doing nothing.

Any bets on how noisy they become after this is finally hammered out? This is going to be unpleasant **no matter what**. Be sure to remember that when the Republicans start criticizing the inevitably ugly solution that they refused to contribute anything to.

Part of the Strib's web problem is that their site is often slow loading and doesn't play well with older computers. As someone who uses low-mid tier broadband and hasn't picked up a computer in several years, I can say that pretty authoritatively.

In contrast, this site and the PPress site work just fine, even with my non-cutting-edge connection and equipment.
