In that we, of necessity, are a very much larger and spread out country with vast distances between places, and also have a very pathetic mass transit, railroad and other systems. It is why we drive so much more and such long distances. In rural areas of this state and others, the car is about the only way to get around, and you have to drive long distances for just about everything.

'Jamaican Farewell' would find this charge of offensive totally ridiculous....

Posted on 01/30/13 at 05:50 pm in response to Benghazi as metaphor: More lessons for our politicians

we are ignorant of them - In a country that has just undergone a revolution and thus is without an infrastructure or intelligence and most of the other governmental organizations we expect, gaining intelligence is very difficult at best. Most things can fly below the radar, simply because the IS NO radar. That is why, trying to find out exactly what happened took time. And to get any accurate answers did just that. Really now, people. Enough of this 'should have' business for...

Posted on 11/02/12 at 06:19 pm in response to Lockouts gain momentum as Minnesota employers seek upper hand

The management seems to have no idea what goes into a professional orchestral musician's education. They are the best of the best, and they want to pay them at such a low rate, and cut their wages in such a drastic manner???? An underpaid teacher can get more than they are offering some.! Some of their business decisions to offer extremely low unlimited ticket prices shows management's ignorance of the value of their product... I could go on, but....

Posted on 10/31/12 at 02:30 pm in response to Exploring the other vote-yes ad campaign

The papers should verify who placed these ads with are emotional and very questionable before publishing. What a mess! Marriage has never made the couple or others immune to straying and the passing on of social diseases. History is full of it. And accurate and clear sexual information does more to protect people than the old fashioned attitude that no information was the best, and if someone knew something about sexual physiology they, perforce, must not be a virgin. Happened to...

Could never figure out his politics when i considered his background. The last paragraph says it all!!!

Posted on 07/17/12 at 05:51 pm in response to Biblical references used by both sides in the marriage amendment debate

and a marriage certificate signed at the church are two different things..
This battle always sort of puzzles me. Although I grew up Lutheran, we all more or less knew that if a Catholic got a divorce, they were not allowed to marry in their church, and would go to a judge instead with a marriage license and receive the 500 odd civil rights of marriage, but the church did not recognize the marriage.

The two were separate - And still are!

my first reaction at the news of Bills nomination and in light of having taken a college economics class in about 1967, It was "A libertarian economics teacher seems like an oxymoron to me." No wonder!

Posted on 06/08/12 at 01:19 pm in response to North Dakota’s oil boom brings damage along with prosperity

Back in the early oil boom,of the 50/60's, I remember a time my dad was livid. About 2 1/2 miles east of Lignite, my dad had caught a hauler getting ready to dump a tank truck of drilling waste in the slough next to the road between our farm place and the neighbor's. That particular slough had a hand pump on the east side of it that provided great drinking water for not only us, but for many of those in the drilling industry who would come with 5 gal. insulated water containers - it was...

Posted on 06/09/12 at 03:19 pm in response to North Dakota’s oil boom brings damage along with prosperity

though what exactly caused it is questionable. Oil drilling fumes, pesticides and herbicides introduced to agriculture, downwind of a coal electric plant in Esteban, now closed, or???? all the above? Both my parents had leukemia when they died, in 82 and 84, my mother's death being caused by it...
