How is it cruel to force people to impoverish themselves for end of life care? I think it is outrageous that people think the government should pay for their nursing home stays while they have thousands and thousands of dollars in savings. They should have to pay for their own nursing home care if they have means to do so. I'll agree that spouses in the community shouldn't have to impoverish themselves, but if someone is in a nursing home, what do they need money for?
While Wisconsin's opposition to the Health Insurance Exchange in the past has been politically motivated, I'd suggest that Walker saying they are not building their own exchange is absolutely in the best interest of the state. At this point, if they were to start working on it, there would be virtually no chance of them completing at state built exchange in the next 10.5 months. Even if he were the most liberal Democrat out there, no governor would chose to start an exchange at this time if...
The full SNAP allotment for a single adult is $200 a month. When someone has income, they are expected to put a certain amount of their income to purchase food, then supplement with their SNAP grant. The reason $31.50 is the average amount is because many SNAP recipients work and they are expected to pay for part of their groceries. If they had zero income, or some income and high shelter costs, they get the full $200/month, which is $50 a week.
The walk score of my apartment is 89. Good, but it considers the Farmers Market as a grocery store and Books For Africa a place I can get books, not a non-profit that ships books to Africa. Sure I can get food at the Farmers Market, but it doesn't stop me from needing to go somewhere else for oil, salt, spices, rice, etc.
With that said, for me, the walk score is low. I walk to work, so for me the walk score is like 99. I leave my house most often to go to work and since I can walk...
The subsidy on purchasing health care is for people making 133%-400% of the Federal Poverty Guideline (FPG). Anyone under 133% FPG will not be eligible for the subsidy, but will still fall under the mandate. So a single adult, say a college student, working only 15 hours a week at minimum wage will be forced to pay full price for health insurance, or take the tax penalty, in states that don't expand Medicaid. So there will be this huge gap of people who won't be able to get insurance because...
