I must be missing something here. A high police presence in high crime neighborhoods hurts democracy so we want less of a police presence in these neighborhoods? Based on the following from our own 4th Precinct I would imagine the police have their hands full dealing with the basics - like responding to serious crimes. I hardly think "cleaning up graffiti and fixing broken windows" is much of a priority.

I would certainly love to talk to some of these people in this neighborhood...

It will be interesting to see if the group of White Bear residents who filed a lawsuit against the DNR for the problems with lower lake levels in WBL eventually admit they too are part of the problem. Or will they continue to believe it's all those other people using their water? I would suspect most people aren't even aware of how much water they use. Isn't it always "those other people"?

And what about the "too much government regulation" crowd? I see some fascinating...

I don't think a lot of people want you to ask those questions, but I'm happy you did. I'll keep checking back for a response.

It looks like the Catholic Spirit does not allow comments unfavorable to their views. Within the last half hour, 2 comments have simply disappeared. No surprise I guess.

Posted on 11/30/12 at 11:23 am in response to Why is White Bear Lake shrinking? Angry residents blame DNR

of a comment Rep. Mike Beard (R) made not that long ago:

Beard believes that "God is not capricious. He's given us a creation that is dynamically stable. We are not going to run out of anything."

Maybe that statement needs to be revised a bit? Tweaked a bit?

Wonderful story!

The idea is so simple and those are always the best. I can just picture something like this having an impact. It makes perfect sense.

If you check the member list for MN Council of NonProfits, there they are:

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St Paul/Mpls
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St Cloud
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Winona

I'm assuming the words "of the" imply some formal connection.

How is this possible?

I too was struck by these amateur-ish or circus style ads. They drive me nuts no matter who is behind them or which candidate is sponsoring them, Clearly Bachmann thinks they will work because I haven't heard any other kind out of her camp. Maybe that says something about her base of support - how their minds work (or don't).

, but the most honest and truthful commentary I have read in eons.

This is why it's impossible to have a meaningful conversation with anyone in favor of the marriage amendment. They won't tell the truth. How many times have we heard: "I like gay people just fine, but..............."

That's bull!

These people think of gays as defective, immoral, but they don't have the guts to say it out-loud. And god forbid they put themselves in a position where they have to defend...

And let's not forget what recently came out of Pennsylvania where Republican House Leader Mike Turzai proudly listed their checklist of accomplishments:

“Voter ID which is going to allow Governor Romney to win in the state of Pennsylvania–done!”

Just how is one to interpret that? Please give me your best spin! I dare you!
