From a strategy standpoint, once you predict it'll be a lousy story, you have two choices:
Provide, at minimum, accurate information and your perspective -- which has a good shot of at least being in the story;
or don't cooperate, and be sure that your prediction comes true.
I guess...
Re: "we all must become social media experts."
It's not so much that we must become social media experts...it's that we must become experts at finding markets and audiences -- in all the media they choose.
Unfortunately, I'd expect it only to get worse for those tied to the paper...um...paper.
What's more unfortunate is that the management appears to be handling its issues by squeezing everyone, rather than restructuring the business of the paper around some sort of sustainable business model. If there was a plan, perhaps some jobs could be saved.
Driving home from anywhere late at night, listening to Mischke is a surreal experience. I suppose if The Common Man can survive from noon to 2, Mischke could have, but I'd argue he's a different beast ... an old-fashioned storyteller and prankster perfect for late night as a nip of cocoa with a little something extra.
I hope MPR can create a space for him ... he'd be perfect, and, as always, like nothing else out there.
Finally - I got a "file not found" when I clicked...
That said, the CNN "discussion" is nearly unintelligible ... TV news once had a great tradition with Murrow, Cronkite, Brinkley, but now...
Perhaps if the 6th district representative retains her office, she can convince the media to get to the bottom of this thinning gene pool issue along with lingering questions about, you know, Americanism and stuff.
A moving tribute to Adm. Stockdale. I always knew that he was better than what we saw at that debate, but had never heard the full story. It ought to be told more often.
Seems like the options for the Strib are radically changing the business model, or dying a slow death.
Or, say, radically re-invigorating the news organization and seeing if they can't win back readers (or, in online adspeak "eyeballs"), whether online or off...and seeing if that might lead to more dollars.
What do you think happens to the Strib over the next couple years?
David, you could argue all week that you're not making an ad hominem attack on Amanda Getz or Katherine Kersten or TIZA. Or, you could get on the phone, call up TIZA and make some time to check out the place yourself and tell us about it.
Shouldn't someone do that?
I know you're a media critic, and that you see this as a media bias issue, but Dr. Glasser at the U told me years back that there is no such thing as unbiased media -- every choice you make is made based on some...
