This is a thoughtful question on your part. What Jeff was suggesting was that if ALL licenses granted by the state were for "civil unions" and the term "marriage" was left to the religious realm, then all Civil Unions, which constituted a contract in the state would be equal in all ways. The religious institutions could then perform "marriages" (which could also be civil unions as marriage is now a civil contract as well) to whomever they wished. It would not be considered...
