Thanks for speaking out so clearly.

Wasn't it Harry Truman who said "Give me a one-handed economist!" I think it's wise to be skeptical of anyone who claims to have an absolute answer to anything. Even 8 + 5 does not equal 13 if you're on a 12-hour clock.

Without approving of the hacking, I must say that it points out the inconsistency of the position of those who quote the Bible in opposition to homosexuality. The quote from Leviticus 20:13 not only says that sexual relations between men is "detestable," but it condemns the men to death. Of course, Leviticus also condemns many other behaviors that, while they may have made sense under the assumptions of Moses, don't apply today.

Not all Christians identify with the Christian Right, any more than all Muslims identify with terrorists. Some denominations, such as the United Church of Christ, and many individual churches, welcome into communion anyone who wishes to come--yes, even Jews. Jesus's message was about love and acceptance of all, even if in contradiction to societal norms and fears.

I agree that the old policy is out of date. But as a very small business owner, selling only my own software to students without much money, I can't help but wonder how much it would cost me to make this change. Besides the cost of having my online store changed to collect taxes, I couldn't really raise the price for students, so I'd have to collect less for myself. And then I'd have to take the time to keep track of the tax collected and send it to the state. Is anyone taking these costs...

I echo Max about Eric Black and MinnPost. Wow!

And I do recall reading complete transcripts of Kennedy's speeches in the newspaper. I don't recall when that tradition stopped.

Abraham Lincoln said, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

It seems inconsistent for Bachmann to object to letting a fool speak out.

I turned 55 before Obama came into office. My insurance premiums went up, too. They were about the same for every insurance company I considered, so it's probably an actuarial thing.

Actually, I wondered how you get away with such small premiums. Then I realized that you are carrying a higher deductible than I can afford. Actuarial calculations again.

But the actuaries have to base their calculations on probabilities of various illnesses. In the past companies were allowed to...
