And I'm sure the Court took into full account that this was an arm's length transaction, where the consumers got to fully negotiate the terms of their agreement with AT&T--it's not like they had to sign this lengthy agreement the way AT&T wrote it or not get their phone, right?

Posted on 04/26/11 at 10:55 am in response to Minneapolis Census data uncover a bipolar city

Well, I find it interesting that no one is commenting on the City's historical pattern of neglecting the Northside due to racism. And the City keeps compounding its' historical neglect of the Northside with poorly thought out bandaid approaches to housing, jobs, services and transporation. And sorry, Mike Christensen, CPED seems to be leading the charge in that regard.
For example, the new CPED housing initiatives are geared around transit corridors, particualrly light rail and...

Posted on 10/14/10 at 11:16 am in response to Wells Fargo may have some 'splainin' to do on foreclosures

By signing affidavits by robo, Wells Fargo is committing fraud on the court --the signer of the affidavit is verifying under oath that the information contained in it is true and correct from their personal knowledge.
Chances are, the information is neither true or correct. Wells Fargo could have these foreclosures thrown out because of this fraud on the court.
No big surprise, as many people attempting to work with Wells Fargo to revamp their mortgages under the federal...

And look at how Emmer is funding early childhood education-- he's stripping the money out of daycare. It was stated that boldly in his initial press release on his education budget, ignored by the media. How is that going to help parents with jobs?
I would note that the press--Minnpost included--has been very lack in reporting on women's issues in this campaign. Sales tax on clothing?--hits women disproportionately more than men--our clothes are more expensive, and we earn less....

Posted on 09/23/10 at 01:33 pm in response to Ranked Choice Voting would help rid political campaigns of negative ads

Speaking as a former campaign manager of insurgent progressive candidates,IRV is not going to cure negative campaigning. The real question every candidate faces is how many votes do you need to win. IRV just increases that number, making it harder for third parties and political newcomers to achieve that number.
Based on the Minneapolis experience, all IRV does is increase the cost of elections, decrease voter turnout, decrease press coverage of the election, and provide full...

Actually, Emmer did have a presence in the May Day parade--he had about a dozen volunteers with signs and tshirts in the Free Speech section, which I, for one, found highly amusing. They didn't get much of a reaction except shocked silence, since Emmeer doesn't support much in the way of the environment, free speech, religous freedom, individual freedom, social justice, diversity or even the 14th amendment (according to the Republican platform). Classic conservitive he ain't.

Posted on 04/30/10 at 04:44 pm in response to Hmong kids: We need a Hmong-speaking cop in our neighborhoods

There's an excellent and detailed front page article in the April 28,2010 NorthNews reporting from that same meeting "Why not a day Hmong officer?". The police sound like they need some cultural awareness training. Apparently no one in the City has thought to provide a translator to the police station on a regular basis, until a Hmong-speaking officer can be on all shifts. Now that Multicultural Services has been removed from Civil Rights and blended into Community Engagement, why isn't CE...

I just want to compliment Minnpost on its' excellent coverage of the DFL convention. The transmission on the Uptake feed was spotty most of the time, but it just helped illustrate the need for better wireless service in all of Minnesota. Generally, the reporting was timely and insightful. The only thing more this political junkie could have asked was: tell us how many are voting on each ballot, and how many spoiled, no endorsement, and writeins per ballot (they help identify trends)....

So let's take a look at RT's executive experience. He's responsible for two departments (and his own office)--Civil Rights and the Police Department. Neither one is the poster child for effective, efficient government.
RT conistently underfunds Civil Rights, guaranteeing it cannot do its' work. Two examples-- Civilian Review Authority is understaffed, and cannot process complaints within the timelines necessary to have their findings used for discipline against offending...
