MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
It's tempting to make some silly remark about Buckthorn Soufflé, but I would never do that. Instead, I want to laud Frank Wright, the famous spoonmaker of Lanesboro, for his gorgeous buckthorn spoons. Anyone who'd ever tried to eliminate a buckthorn tree/shrub with a trunk of an inch or more understands why it's so hard to kill. By the time it gets to 3" or so, its wood is incredibly dense and hard-- but also a really beautiful and intense color-- kind of a rusty orange. We just need to...

Toss a few bucks their way.
Thanks for the great story about this labor of love in Chatfield. Also, thanks for the reminder about Gov. Pawlenty's crassness (and lack of proper research: Potter Auditorium = a pottery?!)-- his snide remarks at the time seemed particularly mean, even for a guy who sneered reflexively at...
Guided by the Golden Rule, I feel compelled point out that "proofread" is the standard spelling of the term. As a grammar-lover, though, I must gently disagree with your implied statement, Mr. Berg--the pursuit of better grammar is (almost) always a noble quest!
Mr. Nord, I've looked through a couple of your previous posts on this health care exchange topic, and remain in the dark regarding the way it might work for consumers like me: self-employed, married to another self-employed person, and both of us buying health insurance (BCBS of MN) ourselves.
For example, would it mean that we could buy into Costco's health insurance plans, currently offered in several other states? I can't seem to locate an answer to that question anywhere! All I...
I'd never thought about the lack of flea markets in our burgs until this minute. I was in Sacramento a few years ago, and really enjoyed a downtown flea market there. And why not something like the Saturday Markets in Portland and Eugene (OR)? Those feature everything from popsicle stick crafts to "high art" paintings and sculpture. Meanwhile, bring on the FLEAS.

Ms. Harris, I've read several of your MinnPost pieces, and while I've appreciated the information you've presented, I'm NOT impressed by your display of hostility toward Minneapolis city council member Meg Tuthill.
Today's petty dig was "she left a snooty response." I blinked at that, but it wasn't as much a jaw-dropper as these lines, in your piece on Trader Joe's quest to move onto Lyndale:
"But Meg Tuthill, the local 10th Ward council member, announced definitively that...
I have so little confidence (or interest) in TV news that I never watch it. Instead, I'd like to express my all-time low confidence in much of the American public!
Mr. Krasnoff, the marriage I entered into with my husband in 1995 did not include plans to "...subsequently procreate, [and] raise the successive generation," as you state in your supposed "correction" above. In fact, we successfully avoided parenthood; and as far as I can tell, are still considered married in the eyes of the state of Minnesota.
The state doesn't compel its citizens to reproduce. It shouldn't shock anyone to learn that quite a few straight couples marry in religious...
Thank you, Mr. Kjer. You're confirming my view from the other side, i.e. that the current Republicans' tactics are weirdly amateurish. Of perhaps caveman-ish.
