MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
All I can add is that if Mussina gets in and Blyleven doesn't, I'll lose all respect for the Hall. 888 strikeouts HAS to count for something!
Heck, I'll go for 35. Hopefully at least some of those will come during the 10 games I have tickets for. :-)
Re: the windmill story. How much a windmill can cut your electric use depends on what you've done to reduce usage before installing. The average Minnesota home uses about 750 KWH/mo.
Seeing as how you can buy a 500 KWH/mo. wind turbine at Northern Tool for $8500, I'd say it could be possible to meet 50% of your usage with a $5000 turbine, especially since Chanhassen is not really that "urban" to begin with.
I would imagine the bagels vs. donuts argument has some merit to it, but don't overlook the role that independent bakeries might play.
I always preferred going to Blackey's Bakery before the owners retired and now go to Sarah Jane's. There are lots of other small bakeries around that compete very well with chains.
In response to John Olson's comment: The standards proposed by the Marty/Hortman bill may have originated in California, but Minnesota is hardly subjecting itself to the decisions of a California-based board.
If Minnesota adopted these standards, they would be subject to the Legislature that approved it and accountable to those of us who voted for them.
Slight correction: Pawlenty was seeking a bonding bill of $820-some million, so the bill passed by the Legislature was $100-some million over what he wanted and he actually cut $100-some million beyond his target.
Which, of course, is where he gets the room to add back his two pet projects and hopefully Central Corridor.
"We've resisted getting into the sexual assault trial of ex-Gopher footballer Damon Jones"
I think you meant Dominic Jones?
Thank you MinnPost for bringing Steve Aschburner on board and nice job detailing KG's adjustment to Boston. It would be good to see a follow-up on how Timberwolves fans are adjusting to life without KG and reacting to the new players.
I don't think Pogemiller's hands are totally clean. He used the Gopher stadium financing as a pawn in his negotiations with the Republican-led House that contributed to the project's delay and rising costs of construction. Had he moved a little more quickly, the University might not have been forced to seek out naming-rights deals.
