Just FYI, this actually isn't that unusual among professional journalism organizations: The Association of Health Care Journalists, National Association of Science Writers and American Society of Journalists and Authors all host things like this at annual meetings. I wonder how much serving sizes played into this. I grew up south of London and remember as a kid that grownups would talk about having "an egg" for tea (meaning light evening meal, not fancy hotel-salon tea). That was 15 years after food rationing ended; though you could argue that the scarcities of rationing imposed certain expectations of what a serving was, and perhaps they persisted afterward. Meanwhile, here in the US, the restaurant standard for an omelet is 3 eggs.
Sorry, this argument is too much of a reach for me. I've carried unwanted poundage most of my life; I understand the cultural pressure to be thin. Organic is good. Humane raising is great. Eliminating gavage is an extra bonus plus, no matter how tasty foie gras is. But let's not forget that this program, high-profile and right-thinking though it is, is still in service to a large corporation.
