MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I just want to know why we're doing this now. Is it because we have a black man in the White House, and this is one way to limit his support? Or is it the supporters' contention that Obama won because of voter fraud? Is it because 2012 just seems like the year to get jazzed about the issue, just because other Republican-governed states have gone nuts? Or just because?
And why is it primarily Republican governors and legislatures that support measures of this kind? Seems to me, they...
I do believe that, in the New Testament, Jesus wiped the tablets clean and created two commandments in place of 10. Paraphrased, they are:
Love God above all.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how this gets mixed up in the Congresswoman's head. If I love my neighbor as I love myself, I will take care of said neighbor and not hog everything for myself. That neighbor, in a perfect world, would also take care of me. Correct? What am I...

Mrs. Bachmann can make a story out of this trumped-up cause/effect, too, but she wouldn't because it doesn't serve her purpose.
Why does she say "U-nine-ed States?"
I just can't help thinking of Orwell's "1984." So much jargon, so much spin. As we say in Minnesota, "Ish."
Jennifer, don't diminish yourself or your group(s)' strength by implying that the most basic, unconsidered participation -- any female voice -- is better than none. Intelligent and informed participation and lofty goals are an important part of policy and culture. Come, now. Think on your feet. Women are a gift to the political world, but only if they run, screaming, from the ignorant or shrill.
We can hold ourselves to higher standards than just showing up. Women have gained much in...
I think this is all silly-sounding. I am not impressed that they had what they called a "coffee powwow" -- this is exactly the kind of silly, stereotypical language that has always reduced the image of women to a group of hens -- clucking, nibbling and sipping.
I agree with the previous MinnPosters about the name of the group. "Girls" -- another slam, in my opinion. It's not that I object to the humor behind the name, the collegiality of it, but that kind of idiom has its place --...
I am astounded by the smart-aleck humor all around. Don't these candidates know that there's not a lot of humor in this for Minnesotans?
