Mr. Johnston ignores that the Constitution requires that "No State shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts." Note that silver is included; nothing about bananas. Until 1974, most coins were 70% silver and dollars were redeemable at any local bank for silver coins.
