MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Like I commented earlier on the post related to increasing poverty:
The US is making a choice between two philosophies:
"you get what you deserve"
and
"let's work together to try to resolve the problems that people are having".
Right now it has swung pretty far toward, "you get what you deserve".
(#10) When a candidate runs for a deathly serious post, like the President of the United States, they should be able to demonstrate their intellectual and reasoning capabilities. Neither Palin or Bachmann have done anything to demonstrate those abilities and have relied entirely on visceral, emotive support.
Fine, be the governor of a state with a population of 700,000. Be the representative for a district with 600,000 people.
But don't think that qualifies you to be...
(#14) Perhaps you can explain, if you are so distrustful of Big Pharma and Big Medicine--are you similarly distrustful of Big Business and Big Finance and their wishes with respect to regulations and rules?
And perhaps are you also as distrustful operations such as the Department of "Homeland" Security and the Department of Defense as you are of the Department of Education and the CDC?
It's the old hypocrisy, "Get government out of my Medicare!"
This is a real decision point for America.
It is clear that life for many people is getting more difficult--not easier. It was also pointed out that in Minnesota, real median family income decreased by 16% from 2000 to 2010.
It is the choice between the philosophy of "you get what you deserve" and "we should work together to alleviate the distress of those who are having difficulty".
Unfortunately, through falsely informed decisions about "what is affordable" and "what...
The HPV vaccine is to be given to patients older than 9 years of age.
There NEVER, repeat, NEVER has been any incident where anyone could say that their child (9 years or older) suffered from "mental retardation" days after receiving the HPV vaccine.
To say so is just making s*** up. No way around that.
It's the same as saying you saw a purple unicorn walking by. Couldn't happen. didn't happen, will never happen.
And if Bachmann didn't make it up and was...
....Minnesotans' median household income has skidded 16 percent since 1999-2000, after inflation is taken into account. [The second worst in the country]
During that time, Minnesota's income rank dropped from No. 3 nationally to No. 13....
From the Star-Tribune article
This is the real story.
Oddly enough, this was the Republican run decade in Minnesota and America.
How did that work out for you?
Brings a slightly different meaning to "pro-business...
Just another day for Bachmann--making s*** up.
If anyone one, anywhere, knew of a case where the HPV vaccine made a 12-16 year old child (that's who the group that the vaccine is supposed to be administered to) "retarded" in a couple of days, it would be huge news and the vaccine would be banned.
What does a little exaggeration and literary license matter?
Let's put it in terms of the presidential world--isn't that just like the Tonkin Bay BS, or the WMD trailers of mass...

I stand by the the phase "making s*** up"
No one told her that their daughter was "retarded" as a result of the HPV vaccine simply because there NEVER has been a case of that, ever. Sure, there is an argument about effects of early childhood vaccines, but vaccines give to adolescents? Give me a break. It's nonsense.
I am so absolutely sick of the absolutely salacious manner in which politicians like Mrs. Bachmann intone:
....innocent little 12-year old girls be forced to have a government injection through an executive order is just flat out wrong...
It makes me think that they have major confusion as to the exact nature of the injection.
A little shaky in her biblical understanding:
(quote)
Jonathan, in Hebrew pronounced yo-naw-thawn, from yeh-ho-naw-thawn, meaning Jehovah-given, was the eldest son of King Saul, and the best friend of the future King David. Jonathan is first mentioned in Bible History after his father's accession as Israel's first human king (1 Samuel 13:1-2).
Jonathan was an intelligent and courageous defender of Israel. He led 1,000 men in defeating the Philistines at Gibeah (1 Samuel...
