Posted on 06/14/11 at 07:57 pm in response to Basilica Block Party DJ Brian Turner says boycott not the answer

I wish you would have opted out, Brian. The Basilica is Co-Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. The Archdiocese has worked to bring this marriage amendment to Minnesota for a long time. They sent out their terrible DVD to every Catholic. They had their Bishops testify for the amendment at the hearings in the State Capitol. I wish you had been present to hear their testimony. It was hard for me to listen to it as a mother with a beloved gay son.

I hope you...

This marriage amendment campaign is going to be obscenely expensive. As a mother with a beloved gay son, I will not spend my money at a place where it could end up supporting this shameful amendment. The Archbishop has clearly stated the position of the church on this amendment. He has already spent thousands to sway church members. He has sent out his bishops to speak in favor of it at the hearings. I hope corporate sponsors of this event decide it would be better if they didn't support...

Posted on 05/24/11 at 10:59 am in response to Wording matters on ballot questions like the marriage amendment

The Republicans say they want a civil discourse on their marriage amendment. I would say asking the most anti gay "preacher" to bless their work on the day they had planned to introduce it is not civil ... it is cruel and it also fans the flames of the most anti-gay people who listen to Bradlee Dean on his radio show.

As a mother with a beloved gay son, the amendment itself is hateful. How do you begin a civil discourse with people who want to make a whole segment of our society...

I agree with comment #2. I will remember this marriage amendment as the Bradlee Dean Amendment. I will never forget sitting in the House gallery and watching my Representative - Jenifer Loon press the button to cast her vote against my gay son. I hope she never forgets it either.

The Republicans must surely remember Emmer's ties to Bradlee Dean and what that did to his campaign.

Posted on 05/21/11 at 06:56 am in response to Legislative firestorm erupts over Bradlee Dean's prayer

I would think the Republicans would have remembered Bradlee Dean from Emmer's race for Governor.

I give thanks every day Mark Dayton won that race.

If the Republicans get their marriage amendment on the ballot, we will be hearing alot from those who aren't so careful about "selectively plucking biblical passages to support a social position" ...in fact, most of those who testified in the legislative committees were faith leaders using scriptures to call for a constitutional amendment.

Posted on 05/12/11 at 12:19 pm in response to Same-sex marriage in Minnesota: Your turn to speak up

Our family has a beloved gay member so this constitutional amendment affects us very personally. The gay community does not have the right to marry in this state so this Republican constitutional amendment just chisels the discrimination they already face in stone.

Phil and I have been married for nearly 39 years. Our marriage is precious to us. We want for our four children what we have been blessed to live out in our years together. Our marriage has been our foundation, our...

I have been to each of the hearings on the Republican's marriage amendment. I have tried to talk to those wearing the "Let the people vote" buttons. They don't want to talk about the amendment. Instead, they ask me if "I am saved." There is a religious fundamentalism sweeping through Minnesota's legislature right now. I hope the more moderate Republicans wake up and start asking these legislators to focus on the budget not on writing discrimination into our state Constitution because...

I want to first thank Republican Rep. John Kriesel for his service to our country. He paid a great price for that service.

I also want to thank him for his courage to stand up to those leading the charge to write discrimination into our state Constitution. Rep. Kriesel has made my day! May other Republicans find that same courage.
