Posted on 04/10/09 at 11:32 am in response to Sen. Marty: Iowa gay marriage ruling boosts Minnesota efforts

Senator Marty is a gift to families like ours who have a gay child. We need more elected officials with his common sense and his deep compassion to speak out for equality.

Marriage equality will come. It is only a matter of time. The day will come when we look back at this time of struggle for marriage equality and we will remember those who had the courage to be leaders for equality. Senator Marty's
grandchildren will proudly know their grandfather was not only a voice...

Norm Coleman owes Senator Klobuchar an apology and Minnesota owes her a big THANK YOU.

Posted on 04/09/09 at 01:27 pm in response to Name Rep. Michele Bachmann's re-education camps

I agree with Sandy Tracy. Too many people actually believe Michele Bachmann. I hope there is a newspaper that will seriously look at all her statements and shed light on how damaging they really are to the issues involved. One elderly woman we know listens to rhetoric like hers and believes it. She has told us she lies awake at night afraid of what is happening to our country. It is time we put an end to the rhetoric that does nothing but fill people with fear.

Wonderful video .... beautiful clips from every person. We need the newspaper to educate and to connect the people.

I love to read the paper as soon as I get up in the morning. I literally function better all day long if I have read the paper first. It links me to my past as my family always read the paper. I have beautiful memories of my dad sitting with his feet up in "his chair" reading the paper. Mom usual sat at the table.

The Star Tribune is not just for the Cities...

With interviews like this one the rest of the nation gets a good look at Pawlenty too. This race will cast a reflection on him too. As they continue to deny our state a second Senator, both Pawlenty and Coleman will see their own political careers tainted.

Having recently helped a person needing dental care, I found it sad to see how difficult it is for someone on assistance to get good basic care. Pawlenty's plan will make it impossible for a person in that situation to find dental care.

I applaud the dentists who are uniting to fight the governor as he takes dental care away from those who need it most of all.

Our governor is viewed by many as a "family values man" but once again he shows his true self. I hope he will...

Posted on 02/12/09 at 01:23 pm in response to Capitol rally: putting same-sex marriage into economic terms

Our family sees this as a simple issue of equality and justice for all. I hope the Governor sits down one day and reflects on the blessings of his own marriage and then takes a few minutes to ponder how he would feel if his own children were denied the right to marry the person they loved.

We give thanks to the Amplatz family for this extraodinary gift which is truly a gift of life for many dear children. We have a grandchild who was born with a damaged heart and one day I am sure he will benefit directly. Our gratitude is beyond words.

Posted on 02/03/09 at 02:06 pm in response to Rethinking Al Franken: He was stronger than you thought

There are a couple of other “headings” I would add.

He was there before the race started. Not only was Al Franken’s voice heard in his books and on his radio show, he made the rounds of the state for others before he threw his own hat into the ring. I remember thinking how much we wanted him to run for the Senate as we heard his speak for others. Franken was a loyal and good friend to many DFL candidates as they ran for office.

He cared. We felt his passion to help others...

Posted on 02/02/09 at 12:48 pm in response to Minnesota's budget: Cutting the arts is counterproductive

Wondeful article.

I would like to remind Gov. Pawlenty who is a fundamentalist evangelical that another name for the God many in the state call Our Father.... also, is often called Creator. Since we were made in our Creator's image ....it may help explain the importance of creating art and beauty in all its forms for the betterment of society. We need the Arts in Minnesota to teach us how to be creative, to enlighten us in ways we may never fully understand and to simply find beauty...
