MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I enjoyed your thoughts, Roxane, about what Barack Obama's presidency personally means to you.
We went to Washington to witness the inauguration as his presidency has sparked such hope for us as a family. As we joined the thousands who flooded the Mall and every inch of every street leading to the Capitol, I would find myself in tears time and again as we watched many very elderly African American women and men being pushed in wheelchairs with blankets piled high keeping them warm...
Congressman Tim Walz is one of the most authentic and intelligent all of the people serving our nation in office. He is a great congressman. He would be a great governor or senator. He is a gift to the 1st Congressional District. They are lucky he has chosen to continue his work in Congress.
The word that he would run for governor was circulating because many in this state see him as a truly gifted leader. It was simply wishful thinking.
I just want to thank him for...
As I read this, I realized just how long ago marriage equality was first fought for in Minnesota. In 1970 I met my husband,Philip. I married him in 1972. I think of all those years we have been together and for 36 of them, we have been married. It makes me sad and angry Richard John "Jack" Baker and James Michael McConnell have not even had one year of marriage in this state. I remember hearing about the speech Hubert Humphrey gave at the national Democrat Convention in 1948. When told...
Al Franken captured our hearts back when he was working so hard to get good people elected years ago. We got to know him as a man who cared deeply about people ... especially people who did not have an easy road in life.
Our life as a family centers on the gay community. We knew Al Franken cared about the gay community long before the election because he was working for equality with the gay community before he decided to run. When you have a child who is gay, the issue of...
Thank you, Doug Grow, for covering this story. Thank you, George Pillsbury, for speaking out. Your family is legendary in Minnesota and your views are ones that will speak to many. My parents are no longer living but they were active Republicans in northern Minnesota when I was growing up. In their last years, they no longer identified themselves as Repubican because they felt the party had been taken over by a real right wing religious fundamentalism. One of the important issues for...
"MPR's Gary Eichten moderated the final U.S. Senate debate last night and brought up DonorGate right away, getting a hurried "No" from Norm Coleman on whether his family accepted any unreported gifts."
We were at the debate last night. I think I would emphasize the word "hurried" in that line. Norm had the opportunity to set the record straight on the charges but instead .... hurriedly said "No" and then attacked Al Franken once again.
Minnesotans have the right know if...
Gary Lee's comments made me realize why I miss the Star Tribune of yesterday so much. In Minnesota, we want a "valiant local paper" and we have seen it slip away from us. I miss the old Star Tribune more than ever these days. I miss the many names who have left that place in the last months and years.
The Katherine Kersten piece slamming Al Franken just days before the election, followed by the endorsement of Norm was really too much for me. If you go to the Star Tribune website...
I wish Ron Gotzman could sit down and talk to Al Franken. We first got to know Al Franken when he was campaigning for others across this state. Al went all over Minnesota working hard to see good people elected. We also heard Al speak shortly after Senator Paul and Sheila Wellstone died. Al was visibly moved as he spoke of Sheila and Paul and he shared his love for them. I am glad Roxane talked about Senator Paul Wellstone in this video. We have in Al Franken a man who will fight for...
I beg to differ with Diane ... we were at the debate and we felt the audience rallying behind Al Franken. Al was very relaxed on stage and gave thoughtful, strong answers on every topic. We felt his real compassion for the people of Minnesota. As we waited in line to get into the debate, we had a chance to talk to a large number of people and they all were excited for Al Franken to bring the Senate seat back to the Democrats. Al's daughter walked the line of people waiting to get in ......
I can't trust Norm Coleman's reason for ending the ads. He has been so negative and vicious with his ads for so long now it has really tainted him as a person. I think the average voter is really tired of him and his campaign. It is impossible to even watch the news without a zapper in hand to mute his ads.
We were at the debate on Saturday and passed him and Laurie as we were leaving. Norm looked like he had a ton of make up on ... did not look well, I thought. Norm did not look...
