MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
@Paul. I did not say the private sector was "brilliantly efficient". I merely said that it is better than government. Your use of hyperbole does not do a thing to support the continued unnecessary spending in government.
You argument does not make a lot of sense. I don't think you can argue, for example, that the private Mayo Clinic would be better if it were government run.
Refusing to recognize that government needs a good clean up makes matters worse. And, by the way, this...
Those who doubt that there is widespread waste in state government may wish to review the bienniel budget documents that will be posted in the beginning of the year at the state's Office of Management and Budget web site. Also, you may wish to review some of the organizational charts for state agencies that are posted on the state's web site in various places.
If you take perhaps 20 hours to study these items even the most generous soul is left sharing one's head. Of course, those...
All in all, I think government wastes far too much and spends far too much. I do not think I have ever seen a private business as inept, inefficient and unresponsive as governments, and I have seen many private businesses when doing consulting work.
Politicians do need to do a better job of managing government. Alas, they seem to lack the will to do so because they gleefully delight in rewarding their friends and allies with well-paying jobs. Republicans and Democrats are alike in...
The professional politicians are so out-of-touch with ordinary citizens that they do not realize that most citizens are simply not interested in most of these so-called government "services" and would be happy to be relieved of them. As in the days of old, citizens increasing view government as a burden and a tyrannical collector of harsh taxes.
It seems that throughout history tyrannical elites have dressed in fine clothes and demanded and extracted taxes from poor bedraggled...
Both Ritchie and Kiffmeyer seem to have too much time on their hands. This exchange about tweets seems like high school gossip to me.
Obama and camp were master's of the use of Facebook and look at the wonderful result that got them (devastating losses in midterm elections). Ritchie and Kiffmeyer may wish to observe and learn.
Personally, I think politicians have always talked too much and adding tweets to the equation is toooooooooo much.
The Democrats did not deliver -- that's the problem.
-65% wanted a health care public option and Obama and the Democrats gave the country a bill that provided a windfall to big insurance corporations via a mandate. Ordinary citizens did not get the public option so many supported and, moreover, Obama lied about his prior support of a public option. That minute that happened, Obama and the Democrats became falling stars -- burning on the way down.
-Ordinary citizens want some...
I think John Marty is correct in his assessment that Dayton won, against the tide, because he ran on progressive values. He may be quirky but voters trust Dayton to do what he promises.
The lack of delivery on the promised progressive change is what did the Democrats in. The Democrats at the national and state levels have not been progressive.
- 65 percent of citizen wanted a public option yet the Democrats failed to provide a public option -- instead they delivered a windfall...
I'm afraid that the rather over privileged Democrats such as Obama and Mondale just do not get it. Many, many individuals are losing everything and are extremely upset. Others see this happening and are also extremely upset.
No amount of charm from Obama or explaining from Obama or any Democrat is going to help Obama and the Democrats overcome the animosity of the voters towards their lousy so-called health care reform bill and their lousy performance on the economy. 65% wanted a...
P.S. I still can't understand why MinnPost is using Cyndy Brucato as a writer. She is a Republican PR person and not a journalist. This piece is the type of stuff she writes -- a white wash of very mean, cruel social policies.
I don't mind Cyndy Brucato's efforts to white wash the Republican policies -- that is what PR folks do. I am disappointed to see Cyndy Brucato writing for MinnPost.
This seems like another PR piece for a Republican candidate. There is nothing in the middle about most of these Republicans in the Minnesota Legislature. Most are quite extreme on social issues and are even interested in throwing our vets under the bus. I am always appalled at the way the Republicans in the Legislature are willing to deprive even vets and seniors of needed medical and dental care.
In the middle? You've got to be kidding. These Republicans are mean.
