MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
My father used to tell a story about the time he was sitting in a high-backed booth in a restaurant in downtown Minneapolis with a bunch of friends. They were engaged in a heated discussion about who was a mobster, which mobster owned which politician, who owned what area of Minneapolis, which one knocked off the other.
When they asked for the bill, the waitress told them that the customer in the booth behind them had already paid their bill. They stood up, put their coats on and...
Amazon will eat their lunch and turn the empty storefronts into local delivery warehouses.
Order online before noon, the delivery truck leaves the Amazon warehouse (former BBY stores) at 1pm. You have your package waiting for you when you get home from work.
Lookout Target. You're next.
One man sells another man a bottle of Smart Pills. "Eat one and I guarantee, you'll be smarter," the salesman says.
The second man eats one, "These taste like rabbit turds."
The salesman says, "See, you're getting smarter already."
Downey has a big job ahead of him. The public doesn't want any more Republican Smart Pills.
Throw in the fact that the Federal Government co-opted the State's militia's by forming the National Guard in 1903 and expanded their powers in 1916 and the word militia in the amendment loses all meaning whatsoever.
The second amendment is as current as the constitutional references to slaves using the word "chattel" and "property". Times change. The constitution should change.
The Oscars on ABC completely blew it. Their online site was old and static while the Yahoo's and other sites were streaming the red carpet and posting pictures of the stars dresses. Where were the movie previews and interviews with the stars? What about the after party parties?
I like the idea of 60 minutes and PBS posting links to their web site for more information but when you get to their web site, you have to click around for five minutes to first find the program you're watching...
It reminds me of a jury trying a billionaire. 11 jurors vote to convict but the 12th juror holds out. No matter how the other 11 argue the facts, they can't change the 12th juror's mind. What is not being discussed is that the 12th juror has taken a substantial bribe and has a lot riding on this vote.
I'll pay 1% more if Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Larry Ellison, Charles Koch, David Koch, the Waltons and all the multi-millionaire Wall Street Bankers pay 1 % more.
1% of Sheldon Adelson's income is more than the average middle class taxpayer will make in 100 lifetimes. He spent more than that trying to get Newt and Mitt elected so he wouldn't have to pay more taxes.
When you can drop an untraceable case of their favorite Scotch in the back seat of a legislature's unlocked car while they're in session.
They already tried running one part of the government as a business. Its called the Post Office.
How did that work out for you?
It's like two farmers looking at a pig and trying to figure out what to do with it.
Downey wants to put lipstick on it and try to sell it. Stebbins wants to gut it and sell pork chops.
Neither one wants to admit that the real problem is that they've been stuck with a sick pig.
