Just as conservatives have embraced Ronald Reagan, they reject his tax hikes. Actually they, nor their opponents mention them.

Romney and Ryan are campaigning on the so-called "Reagan principles".

David Stockman, the wild-eyed leftist radical who ran Ronald Reagan's budget, calls Mr Ryan's budget plan "devoid of credible math or hard policy choices".

If Romney/Ryan come out in favor of a plan, they ought to attach some numbers. If they don't, then we'll be clear on what's actually going on here, which, it seems to me, is nothing but the same old problem the Republican Party has been facing since 2000,...

I find that this characterization is often made by people who in actuality are opposed to demands for rigorous and logical thinking and favor "fuzzy" (read no) logic instead. Good engineers understand complex systems but only demand that those systems are coherent with themselves..

When, where, how, and under what circumstances a woman is going to have a child is a question of enormous, life-long consequences.

Nobody, certainly not the state, and certainly not religious busy-bodies who think it is their right to impose their religious views upon others, has any business thinking it is their place to make that decision for her.

Mr. Romney, my granddaughter would like a pony while you're at it.

The new Republican plan is the old Republican plan.

One way out of this trap is to simultaneously offer Medicare for all. You can't reform Medicare because to do so is an attach on seniors, which they will fight. You can't means test Medicare because middle class seniors (the ones who vote the most) know that they will be paying more. But if you offer Medicare to all, reform is absolutely essential, and it will be harder for the seniors to argue about means testing when the young are paying 80% of the premiums and the old are taking 80% of...

Posted on 08/20/12 at 05:41 pm in response to Todd Akin’s colossal gaffe could be a game-changer

It's unfortunate that his male body was unable to shut down his mouth.

Romney and Ryan’s antipathy towards Bernanke and the Fed are well known. So a Republican win would bring quantitative easing to a screeching halt, and possibly a quick unwind of the central bank’s massive $2.8 trillion balance. Such a policy would be highly recessionary. Remember, no Bernanke means no Bernanke put. You could halve asset prices everywhere pretty quickly in such a scenario.

Just as conservatives have embraced Ronald Reagan, they reject his tax hikes. Actually they, nor their opponents mention them.

So they would have to remember Friedman said "print money" but the deficit and debt would rise.

Isn't the deficit and the debt the rage today?
Funny that is wasn't in the summer of 2008.

I've bookmarked Mr. Brodkorb's site and am looking forward to reading his take on local politics.
