MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Tip of the hat to AAN, my old employer.
The math doesn't look good for the WI GOP holding on to the state Senate after next week. All they need to pick up is one seat out of five.
In the Twin Cities area, you can plug your electric vehicle into the sun at at least three locations:
* There are two solar powered charging stations in St. Paul’s Como Park.
* The GE Capital Fleet Services headquarters in Eden Prairie has a solar carport for employees and visitors.
* The RiverCentre parking lot in St. Paul has EV charging stations and a 82 kilowatt PV array on the south side of the ramp.
I still pick up the daily paper -- either the Stib or PiPress -- just about every day. We used to get both papers delivered at work, but that was cut for cost savings.
I'm no stranger to online media (I'm here, right?), but I still like the feel of newsprint in my hands.
In any case, thanks for the new numbers. I communicate to others via these papers from time to time, and it's important for me to get an idea just how many people our message may be reaching.
Sorry I have to be the bearer of bad news on Ramsey County air quality, but better from us than the EPA...
As much as we hate to be the bearers of bad news, the "F" grade for short-term particle pollution (think Air Alert Days) in Ramsey County may serve as a wake-up call for us to deal with this issue before the EPA steps in to enforce federal clean air standards.
Up North, Duluth is practically crowing about our report, which named them as one of the "five cleanest cities" in the U.S. for long-term particle pollution and ozone.

There has been a lot of trash talk about EVs of late. Thanks for clearing the air on this one.
My organization (American Lung Association in Minnesota) is a member of Drive Electric Minnesota, a group that is trying to help build the infrastructure for electric vehicles in Minnesota.
EV's may be a niche product now, but if the price goes down and quality improves, who knows? I've driven a Leaf and I would love to own one.
It is very unlikely that we will see a new nuclear power plant in Minnesota anytime soon. Our utilities are on track to meet their 25 by 25 goals, some are ahead of schedule. Yet Rolf still says it can't be done. Even as we are doing it -- with some of the lowest electrical rates in the nation. Go figure.
I'll be the first to admit that changing our transportation fuels/options is a daunting task, but I won't accept failure -- or the status quo -- as an option.
I have watched Kurtis Scaletta's career grow with great interest. We used to chat online on the old MNSpeak site. I remember when he published his first book, "Mudville," and have seen him grow as an author every since. Great to see him honored at the 2012 MN Book Awards.
There is little finacial incentive for builders to take the extra steps and training time to build homes that are energy efficent, longer lasting and more sustainable. That's too bad, because we know how to do this, and the long-term benefits would be huge for homeowners, utility companies (conservation is cheaper than building new power plants) and to the environment.
That's why we have to do it through the building codes. As usual, the change-resistant builders lobby will fight...
