I'm the communications director for the North Dakota Clean Cities coalition, a group that is seeking alternatives to traditional petroleum fuels.

North Dakota has at least 77 alternative fuel stations that include E85, biodiesel, propane and electric vehicle recharging stations. There are 2 E85 stations in Casselton, which is also the site of an ethanol refinery.

Our current focus is on building natural gas vehicle infrastructure in the state, to use the cleaner-burning fuel...

If we are smart, we'll being using less oil over the next 100 years.

Some things to consider:

Exhaust from traditional petroleum fuels is the single largest source of air pollution in Minnesota, according to the MPCA.

Petroleum fuels are a major source of greenhouse gases.

Once used, petroleum is gone forever. Other fuels, like biofuels, are largely renewable and burn much cleaner. MN has no oil or coal to recover, but we do have biofuels.

I'm so sorry for her loss, but happy that she and her wife could finally marry in their home state.

...I suggest Leitz take a lower profile than his predecessor and let his communications director handle some of the news conferences. It's what we folk get paid to do.

She first entered the 2006 race as the endorsed candidate of the Libertarian Party of Minnesota, then decided to enter as a Republican. The Libertarians took back their endorsement. I believe Sue kept their money.
