MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Was going to spend some time with family in Wisconsin, but the Duluth area needs our help. Taking my mom and aunt to see North Shore for the first time.
More than 10 percent of the electricty used in Minnesota now comes from wind turbines. Wind power has gone mainstream, and it's working fine for Minnesota utilities, which are on-track to obtain 25% of the power from renewable sources by the year 2025.
First, many of these trucks are owned by local chefs who live (and pay taxes) here. They are not "transient vendors," but a new wave of culinary entrepreneurs on wheels. Their food is often locally grown, and the people hired to work the trucks are locals, too.
Some of these 100 or so trucks will serve bad food, or provide bad service, or their business model will fail. They will be gone, soon enough. People may choose to go back indoors, or some of the downtown brick and mortar...
If you swim in Illinois,
you'd best watch out for 'the boys.'

I heard the same "economic disaster" nonsense when Minnesota went smokefree. I wasn't true here, either.

Glad to see someone spend a little more time on air pollution and health concerns than just reporting MPCA air quality alerts.
Hat tip to Susan Perry and MinnPost for going deep with the latest science.

While I don't necessarily share his rosey view of the future of nuclear power, either here or abroad, Rolf's comments on the importance of the recent Court of Appeals ruling and his anaysis on coal's decling role is spot-on.
Nicely done, sir!
Sooner or later, they will adopt environmental regulations to reduce air pollution associated with coal, just as we are doing now. Look how long it took the USA to start cleaning up its act -- the Clean Air Act and EPA didn't even exist before the Nixon Administartion.
Andy's observation is dead on. It's one of my favorites, and fits Jesse to a T.
Perhaps they will rename themselves "The Fighting Wasichu." ;-)
