This is a worthy effort for a worthy cause. But in the U.S. Dane, you are like Sisyphus and his boulder.

I always enyoy reading or hearing David Schultz views. but it would be nice if he said something about merits of a stadium - economics and other factors.
I suggest that the disclosed lobbying activity is irrelevant.

Keep at it Hiram. they might get the message. And almost all the resources for the new stadium are American with the usual multiplier effect. And we actually have more schools than we need.

Right on, Conrad. But politicians who will support the need for revenue to maintain and upgrade infrastructure are few.

This is an interesting article with, as far as I can tell, accurate math.
But when one of your factors is a myth, the results open to question. The largest "battery house" that I am aware of is the molten salt device being tested by Xcel Energy to back up wind farm in southern MN.
This kluge from Japan is the size of a couple 18 wheelers, cost $4 million or so, and has total storage capacity of about 7MWh. That's 20 seconds of output from Prairie Island nuclear. Our 30,000 MW...

Bachmann, or a surrogate, recently published a Strib editorial about oil and energy. It was replete with technical errors. I wrote a response, taking it apart, which the Strib published under the heading, "Bachmann doesn't know anything about oil". The op-eds are easy to find on the Strib web site.
To my knowledge there has been no attempt to "make me pay". But on reading this article, I am inclined start avoiding the usual dark alleys.

Before we get too smug about the likely demise of Michele B., remember the latest Texas governor looms. Bye bye physics; hello intelligent design.

Nuclear power is Xcel's lowest cost and most reliable fuel source. Xcel runs a program called Windsource where you pay EXTRA to support wind energy.
The notion that wind power "competes" with natural gas is a joke. Wind power "requires" extra natural gas in order to back up all those times when wind isn't producing. The constant cycling of those gas plants in Xcel's Colorado region is causing more global warming emissions per a recent Bentek study.
Kelly is right about the...

I am an Xcel Energy shareholder because I have confidence in the company and its management and those three low cost reliable nuclear reactors.
I also like to call a spade a spade. Research on renewable energy is useful, but at this point renewables aren't doing anything for our kid's future.
Xcel is testing a Japanese battery to back up a small wind farm. The battery costs $4-5 million, is the size of two 18 wheelers, & has to be kept at 500 degrees. Its total storage...

I'll probably do another class on nuclear energy and spent fuel disposal in winter quarter.
Spent fuel storage is not a trivial problem, but it is doable. Obama didn't help when he trashed Yucca Mountain. And the stuff that has millennia long half lives is not very radioactive. It's the 30 year material that is the problem.
