Every time I see a piece about Hubert H. Humphrey I am reminded of Tom Lehrer's satirical "Whatever Became of Hubert?"

[lyrics]
Whatever became of Hubert?
Has anyone heard a thing?
Once he shone on his own,
Now he sits home alone,
And waits for the phone to ring.

Once a fiery liberal spirit,
Ah, but now when he speaks he must clear it.
Second fiddle's a hard part, I know,
When they don't even give you a bow.

"We must...

Addy, I think that is VERY on topic.

My personal preference for greener is this: take a tax write-off (or simply sell) your used cooking oil to the bio-diesel drivers of the area. Instead of paying someone to clean it up for you write off the amount you would have spent and give away the used oil so that people with modified tanks can use it more.

Aaron - did you see that grab that Cuddyer had at second on Sunday? Not a "web gem" by any means but I hardly think that qualifies as "beyond bad".

Instead of simply spouting numbers with bad ratios as you've done for years, perhaps you should pay attention to the game you're covering.

Or is your short-term memory only 24-hours long?

A couple of things to note: Groupon.com discount holders and giftcard holders are SOL. If you want a refund on your Groupon purchase just contact their customer support. As for the gift card... Good luck. IANAL but I believe they might be responsible for those after all.

Jay Weiner writes: "[t]he Vikings' rent for the luxury suites the team has controlled since 1982 was reduced from about $1.3 million a year to $400,000 annually since 2005, according to commission figures."

How much of the $900,000 drop is due to the Twins leaving?

I am not a fan. I'm a smoker and I will vote for whoever runs against my senator or representative that votes for this measure.

In fact, this measure will probably end up hurting more bars than helping - at least amongst my circle of friends (two-thirds of which are smokers).

Posted on 01/20/11 at 05:37 pm in response to You should file a claim for that damaged luggage. Just saying.

I've never had anything stolen from my luggage - I'm lucky, too, as I regularly pack extra camera gear in my suitcase because I can't fit it in my shoulder bag or camera bag to go on the plane. Included in that are tripods, monopods (could be considered weapons on the plane so they *never* come into the cabin), flashes, a spare body or two. Sometimes hard drives for storing photos.

But I've never had anything stolen. And the damage done to my luggage in the past ten years is not worth...

Posted on 01/13/11 at 04:20 pm in response to Franken to Feds: Want new road signs? Help pay for 'em

My question would have to be where are these signs made? Does MNDOT get them locally (in state) or farm out the manufacturing outside our border? If it's in-state I see no problem paying for them, but if we have to buy them from a business with no other ties to Minnesota than an account number I feel the feds should definitely pony up the money.

Neal makes a very good point in his comment, but you also need to take this piece into consideration: The head coach is ALSO the GM. Does that happen ANYWHERE else in major league sports? Not that I know of. But the NFL is special, and as such, needs to change how it's handles team personnel: take it out of the coach's [in]capable hands.

Mr. Schletzer - If she won't allow it why is she debating Tarryl Clark three times? Are you saying it's a facade?
