Posted on 05/20/13 at 12:16 pm in response to Anti-bullying bill dies in Senate

Regardless of when this bill was brought to the Senate floor, I have been searching my head, heart and soul to try and figure out what I would "filibuster" for if given the opportunity - if I was on "the other side".

All I have been able to come up with is something that attacked an individual's human dignity. Ironic considering this bill was to help protect human dignity, dignity of children who are ridiculed and bullied.

It is a shameful tactic.

Not sure how taking a gun and putting it into her chin and pulling a trigger can be described any other way than murder.

It seems that the chairs are mainly from the metro area. Is that status quo and I haven't noticed before? Wouldn't it be better to have more diversity among urban, suburban, rural and outstate?

What does Joe Mullery know about Early Childhood and Youth Development Policy? Mary Murphy and Veterans Affairs? Shouldn't committee chairs have knowledge and experience in their areas?

Do we really want to pick apart people who need food?

So, if a homosexual couple promised to not raise children and made that promise medically permanent, then it would be fine for them to get married, right?

Posted on 10/17/12 at 12:25 pm in response to Many Christians do not see same-sex marriage as an issue of 'fairness'

As Rep. Steve Simon said in last April, “How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves if he wants them around?” See: Genesis, Psalms, Jeremiah

If you believe we are all made in the likeness of God, then people who are gay are also made in the likeness of God. There is no caveat to that. It is not a defect. Would God really create a person with the intention that they would not be able to be authentically true? That they would not be welcome and entitled to...

I am Catholic. Much of my education was via Catholic institutions. I am devastated at the hurt the marriage amendment is bringing to families. I am very weary of the argument that "if you don't like the rules, then leave." It is MY church, too. WE are the church.

God and the Holy Spirit work in miraculous ways. The message I hear from God after much study and soul searching is "vote no". Why is it that if I have made this decision, some Catholics say I am automatically wrong? How...

Posted on 09/10/12 at 03:33 pm in response to Minnesota voting amendment would change much more than you might think

Swift: "And, with all due respect, I hardly think the inconvenient consequences of your failure to plan ahead constitute a very convincing argument."

My translation: sorry you are at war risking your life for your country, since you didn't plan ahead for your unknown length of deployment, you don't get to vote.

Classy.

I have faith in God. I work at a Christian church. That is important to me. But, that is not important to everyone. Nor does everyone believe there "is" a God. I have always struggled with the Christian belief that only particular Christians are worthy, etc. There simply isn't just one "way".

There are faith stories and beliefs that help shape some peoples values. Human decency shapes others values. I want candidates who have decent values regardless of where they come from -...
