MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
It looks like the story of the gay republican volunteer beating was a hoax. I am glad it was not true, but this guy really has issues. But I am sure he has great health insurance through the Republican party, or maybe he can still be on his parent's insurance plan because of Obama Care.
I agree William. The magazine has gotten terrible. I switched to the on-line version of Time and was eagerly waiting for my Newsweek subscription to expire. Never pay for 3 years in advance!
I don't know how much this affects ratings but I noticed beginning in January that the Current (especially) and MPR have a lot more commercials for sponsors. I know they do not consider them commercials, but there really is no difference. They advertise beer, several restaurants, ect. I found this to be a big turn off and actually dropped my membership.
Way to go Paulsen. By-pass those pesky lobbyists and corporate interests and go straight for the gold yourself.
Or why not a Reagan styled "Tax Simplification Plan", which resulted in a parallel tax system, the flat AMT tax you all love. And the tax simplification act was in two huge books, I threw mine out years ago, but they must have been a thousand pages each. Irrelevant now, with the internet, but the point is, there was no simplification.
All tax professionals long for a new "simplification" plan. As do the wealthy.
Star Tribune has lost its value to me. I think it is a generation thing. Most of the stories are so old I have already heard them before they show up in the paper. The on-line comments are frightening. I would cancel in a minute if my spouse would agree. Am sure the kids will never subscribe to the Strib.
The Republican party also views itself as the "pro-life" party, the party of life. No irony detector required.
I don't think the Strib can make it online. Most stories come from AP. Haven't looked at their site on-line for a few years because the comments were so horrid - they let anyone comment on anything - and it was depressing to think so many people you worked with or drove alongside with were so hate-filled.
Ask yourself, if you are looking for news on-line would you go to the Strib? I wouldn't.
Dayton's lower approval rate probably reflects a lot of frustration that he gave in and passed a budget without new income taxes. Bringing the income tax rate back up to what it used to be is the obvious answer to bringing in new revenue in a fair way. If you do not have the income, you do not pay the tax.
If you disagree, think about how many volounteers it will take to fill the 38 x 38 sinkhole in Burnsville and magnify it by 1,000. And figure out when you are going to show up...
I am disappointed about this capitulation also. Dayton does have a point that he can not make the legislators increase taxes. But still, I think he should have held out longer and got more public support for raising taxes.
I hope it is pointed out that the Republicans are spending more than they said they would. Maybe they will reject his offer. If so he had better hang tight and quit negotiating with himself.
