MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
I don't think so. It's hard to keep control of your emotions when confronting a bully. That is what Ellison did, confront a bully. Could he have been more eloquent or more controlled? Perhaps, but as I said, it is extremely hard to keep your cool when confronting a bully. And make no mistake about it, Hannity is a bully of the highest order. And yes, so are very many Republicans, the group Hannity defends to the end.
that our state should not wait for the rest of the nation to build a high-speed train line. Imagine, for a moment, a North Star network that connects Minneapolis/St. Paul to Duluth with perhaps a stop in Hinkley, shuttles to Rochester and St. Cloud, regular service to Moorhead/Fargo. Time wise, at a mere 150 mph its about an hour to Duluth...40 minutes to Rochester... 1 1/2 hours to Fargo...30 minutes to St. Cloud. What a boom to this state, economically and culturally. The United States...
and I started to wonder...could management be deliberately holding out on the musicians while they spend their millions re-modeling Orchestra Hall? They don't have to pay the musicians and they won't have finicky contractors and construction workers complaining about concert-goers getting in their way. It's a win/win for management. Just a thought. I predict the strike will be over when the majority of the construction to Orchestra Hall is completed.
and in the 1960's, my parents invested heavily in property in SW Florida and other places. Since their passing, our family trust still cannot unload the 15 acres of "prime" property right off US 41 - better known as Tamiami Trail, just south of downtown Naples. No building...no jobs...not even rich folks are going there unless they're already established. Good luck to Florida. What can I say..."I'm proud to be a Minnesotan" - high taxes and all.
follow your suggestions and make no changes to their party or platform until after the 2014 elections. The party of bankruptcy: fiscally, morally and socially - needs to reflect on how America is changing. By then, progressive, smart-thinking, innovative progressives will have left an indelible mark on our society making it almost impossible for repressive Republicans to take us backwards once again. People want a progressive, forward looking government, not one that wishes for Ozzie and...
that counting the number of sub-zero nights since the 1970's, 80's, 90's and 00's and showing them to be fewer and fewer is a "shallow?" Please, sir, tell me what you would need for a lay person to understand the climate is changing and the trend is towards warming?
...and don't you find it ironic that many of Craavak's attack ads were about Nolan NOT showing up for work. Life is funny, isn't it? Here Nolan is complaining there is no work there...everyone is too busy raising funds.
its attitude towards gays and lesbians if it wants to make its quota. I know I for one passed the red bucket in favor of more gay-friendly charities, such as OutFront, Gay and Lesbian Community Services, PFLAG and the North Star Council of the BSA. Catholic Charities was also by-passed this year despite the good work they and the Salvation Army do to help the homeless and less fortunate. Because I have a limited amount to donate, I only give to organizations that share my values...and hate...
for the courage to keep Golden Valley on the metro transit grid. Mayor Shep Harris, Councilmember Joanie Clausen and Mike Frieberg deserve much credit for their forward thinking and visionary action despite many residents who felt their "slice of heaven" would be ruined by a train no one from Golden Valley would use - according to them. Councilmembers Paula Pentel and Dede Scanlon, meanwhile, seemed to me more intent on keeping Golden Valley in its halcyon days of 1972. Thank you Mayor...
I'm sorry you feel so slighted by the LRT Central Corridor. I was just on University and also Stadium Village and I personally think that the LRT will vastly improve the real estate in those neighborhoods. People should cross at cross walks...in fact, I believe it's the law. Stadium Village is starting to come together in a most sophisticated manner. It's starting to feel like a village, now. I find it interesting how people complain about something that will improve many, many people's...
