It occurs to me that something was made ambiguous that did not need to be, nor should be. The fact that something is common does not make it right. Do what you like in your private affairs, but when taxpayer money is in play, the taxpayers have a right to the financial details of the transaction. The fact that Dayton offered to pay adds more ambiguity and subterfuge to the story.

Kevin (#14):

That is no secret.

Our President was ostensibly a U.S. Senator while he campaigned for his current job for 18 months. That is how the game is played. If you are saying that you don't like how the game is played, I agree with you.

Jim (#15): What companies do is between them and their stakeholders. We the citizens are the stakeholders in public employment. The government is accountable to us, and there should be no secret settlements.

The city of...

Tommy (#11);

There should be no secret settlement when taxpayers money is being "spent". It is my money and I deserve and demand to know how it is being wasted.

Josh (#6):

"This story will have no traction because it's absolutely laughable for the GOP to pretend to give a crap about people who work for a living."

The pretender in this story in not the GOP; the pretender is Mark Dayton. He is pretending to "give a crap about people who work for a living", while conducting himself in a contrasting fashion. In the case of Brad Hanson, the taxpayers picked up the tab. And, no surprise, the documents got destroyed.

Though not a fan of sports analogies, this one might work. At the end of the game last night, the washed-up leader throws it away, leaving all his supporters in utter despair.

In other words, Ellison knows that the "D" by his name means that he can mail it in and keep his 5th District seat. It's a grassroots campaign. I've seen a lot of candidates over the years, but I've never seen Keith Ellison. I've had conversations in my entryway with Martin Sabo, but Keith Ellison has never knocked on my door.

A law outlawing importation of flags? That passes as a job creation bill? Does Rukavina think that without the stimulus, he would have seen no work crews on his drive to St. Paul? This stuff is laughable.

The stimulus, which was served up with a promise of 3.7 million jobs, has failed. Since passage of the stimulus bill, 2.6 million jobs, including 2.5 million private sector jobs, have been lost. 48 of 50 states have lost jobs during the stimulus.

The Iron Range has fared...

Red McCombs duped? People like Red don't get duped. McCombs purchased the Vikings for $250 million, and sold it seven years later for $600 million; in round numbers a third of a billion more than he paid for it. I'd like to get duped like that.

What poll is calling for a Dayton landslide (11%)?

The Rasmussen Reports poll published today (Oct. 8) says Emmer and Dayton are still in a virtual tie.

Senator Harry Reid, back in 1990, took exception to the use of the trust fund as a slush fund. However, it continues under his leadership today.

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) Speech on Senate Floor, October 9, 1990:

"…on that chart in emblazoned red letters is what has been taking place here, embezzlement. During the period of growth we have had during the past 10 years, the growth has been from two sources. One, a large credit card with no limits on it, and two, we have been...
