As Senators pointed out last night in the debate on amendments to the stadium bill, there was one missing party in the alleged "negotiations" leading to the actual content of the bill...

...the VOTERS and TAXPAYERS, who had no one in that meeting to speak for them. The metropolitan tribes were represented; and our rah-rah Mayor was there to represent downtown business interests, and of course other stadium supporters from the Legislature were in on it.

But as these Senators...

Now that's even simpler !! It worked for the Twins, now it's working for the Vikings, too.

Aside from the boatload of taxes (in the range of $675 million to $890 million) which will be borne in the city of Minneapolis, there is the extremely regressive expanded gambling taxation, of which estimates say approximately 50% will be supported by a small number of gambling addicts.

..that is giving us this monstrosity, but much, much WORSE - it's the DFL that is smacking down on every other alternative which could cost the taxpayers far less.

Why ? Check out the relationship between the metro tribes and the DFL and you'll see why.

The metro tribes don't want racino competition - so the DFL blocks it. The metro tribes don't want ANOTHER tribe (White Earth) running a casino in the metro area - so the DFL blocks it. The fact that both of these...

...all those tickets, suites, parking - all of it !! You sell yourself short, sir !! You have plenty of money to give, and you WILL give it !!

I have never seen such trivial fluff published by MinnPost - not since Mr. Berg's LAST column !!

The fundamental arguments made in the debate against this boondoggle are being ignored.

Rep. Banian's sensible and expert soliloquy on the discredited economic theories underlying the bill were ignored not only in this column, but by the House.

Remember Ernestine, Lily Tomlin's telephone operator ?? ("We don't care - we're the Phone Company *snort snort*.") Well, she is being channeled by the stadium supporters in this session.

After all, why should these...

...but key information seems to be hard to get in this stadium nonsense, no?

...so that the Vikings can oh-so-reluctantly, in such pain at getting a half-billion dollar handout, make as though they are giving in. Then we'll hear how they compromised and negotiated in good faith.

It's a little like a highwayman robbing you at gunpoint, stripping you of everything, including all your clothes. Then, in a magnanimous gesture, he gives you your SHOES back, claiming, like the Vikings no doubt will, "See ? We compromised."

...who furthermore have no spine. We elected schmoos to high office, and now what we are going to get is the very best government that money can buy.

Don't be so certain that "It may be legal..." because there is a great deal taking place in the dark and behind closed doors in this matter. It may be that some illegal actions ARE being taken to get the votes they are after. I wouldn't be surprised.

I would like to see a RICO prosecution of the NFL - a corrupt organization in...
