MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
it's another republican who seriously believes there is enough "waste" in state government to pay for first world services while slashing taxes on his banker buddies, and who thinks $7 an hour as a minimum wage is not a problem.
I believe Minnesota has already voted on this guy, and rejected him. His name was Mitt Romney.
due to the aging population. A person going into retirement is more likely to have a paid-off mortgage than a younger person, and therefore is more likely to pay cash when they downsize into a retirement house. We are currently experiencing the leading edge of the baby boomer retirements, so this wouldn't be shocking.
For one thing, Graves is now well known. He's not exactly a flaming liberal, though seems solid on issues that are important to democrats, who are increasing in the district, albeit slowly.
But mainly, the MN GOP is now an extremist organization incapable of nominating mainstream candidates. Look at the joke that ran against Amy Klobuchar - the man epitomized the out-of-the-mainstream, free-lunch, divisive "abandon all hope" libertarian philosophies that most Minnesotans, including...

scientific research in the United States.”
As someone who has worked in the drug industry, I can assert that is in fact true - and the number might be higher, depending on how they calculate tax breaks for nonprofits.
The myth that the free market is the best or even a particularly successful way to make major scientific breakthroughs is just that, a myth. The profit motive is extraordinarily ineffective when it comes to this - bringing us five flavors of viagra instead of...
health care systems in america. Rochester has among the lowest per capita health care costs in the US. If you're complaining about expensive treatments, you're complaining about the wrong system.
The hospitals that rack up the biggest bills are in places like texas, where doctors use their patients as personal ATMs.
that a proposal for "civil unions" sounds like one of those radio stations that still plays top 40 from 1993. Hopelessly outdated. The only way to "put the issue to bed" is to declare full equality and move on.
the tiny populations that live in rural wilderness areas, we wouldn't have tree or wild animal left to look at. I grew up in a rural area out west, and "local interests" were entirely controlled by monied outside interests who sought to make a profit off of local natural resources. Minnesota is no different in that regard. The "locals" in rural areas are often much more dependent on these outside employers than they would ever let on, and are unfortunately easily bribed or easily threatened...
I found articles about expansion into Africa, China, and elsewhere.
Seems a shame to take a Minnesota-focused community resource and get them tangled into a company that is expanding in a way that doesn't seem very "non-profit." How will we be sure that the company remains truly non-profit? We've seen how health insurance companies have abused that privilege.
From the Rapid City Journal this January:
"Sanford Health could be operating in China in about a year if the...
even living near shoreview, I found I needed one of those. But I did pretty well with it.
