Voted at about 10:45 a.m. at Valley View Elementary in Columbia Heights -- parking lot was full, but able to park after circling lot a couple times. Once inside voting was quick, but machine wouldn't take my ballot; turned out I had two sheets stuck together and voted on front of one and back of other. Had to remark the front of one, and then all went smoothly, but poll worker said they'd had others with the same problem. Best part was the hallway leading to the polls lined with kids'...

Does the name "Timothy McVey" ring any bells?

Dennis -- I totally agree with you abouit the "tyranny of the majority," and as a retired pensioner, I am far from rich. I am perfectly willing to pay higher taxes, as long as your "everybody or nobody" argument also applies to marriage: either state-sanctioned marriage for same-sex as well as opposite-sex partners, or sanctioned marriage for nobody.

If the Republicans are really so concerned that all children should be raised by a mother and a father, why haven't they outlawed divorce if the parties have children? Perhaps because that would infringe on the rights of too many of their party members?
Putting the civil rights of citizens up for a vote, and then appealing to bigotry to make sure they are denied those rights, is the lowest form of political cynicism.

I'm in Columbia Heights, and not only did I get my Sunday paper by 8 a.m., the carrier waded through waist-deep snow to put in neatly on my very snowy doorstep. Great job!

This "reassignment" is a travesty, and the newsroom execs ought to be ashamed of themselves. Tom is simply one of the best beat reporters at the paper and certainly one of the most respected environmental reporters in the nation. He handles breaking news and covers big complicated issues better than anyone. What a waste

Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel justified the contribution to MN Forward as promoting "pro-business candidates" who would create jobs, which to Republicans means tax cuts, tax cuts and more tax cuts. Well, we've had a decade of state and federal tax cuts, particularly for big business and the wealthy, and I don't see a whole lot of job creation, do you? All I've seen is job cuts, job cuts, job cuts, resulting in unemployed consumers who can't afford to consume and employed consumers who are too...

@Dennis Tester: One could say the same for Target CEO Steinhafel...you've just agreed with the liberals' point. Thank you.

So, Mr. Swift, you have no problem with those who "manage" enterprises skimming off huge salaries and bonuses for themselves while the people who do the work and create the value get less and less? It's "no concern of yours" what the grossly overpaid executives earn, but it is your concern what the nurses who work nights, holidays and double shifts caring for the sickest of the sick are paid? Hmmmm, that makes a lot of sense....

Posted on 02/11/10 at 11:13 am in response to Clark goes after Bachmann for Social Security comments

Mr. Westover: I'm guessing that your income has been a bit higher than that of a single mom working at Wal-Mart, or that of the numerous families, once middle-class, whose members are working two or more jobs each just to keep food on the table and their houses out of foreclosure. How many of those folks do you think have enough money to pay advisers to help them manage their "portfolios?"
Even in boom times, lower-paid workers won't be able to amass large enough retirement funds to...
