MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
1. Election reforms should have bi-partisan support. Just because the Minnesota Republicans broke this sensible rule, it does not invalidate the concept of fairness.
2. Absentee ballots may be processed early, but they are not put through the ballot counter until election day. In 2002, there would have been time for many absentee voters to change their vote, but they were not allowed to.
I'd say a 93% rate would constitute a win. The Times story says that there are about 2500 schools participating nationwide. The 200 who cancelled equals a 7% drop rate - and we don't know if they were influenced by the AFA or if there were other reasons.
This article was a day-brightener - thanks so much for bringing it to our attention.
Alas, there is a Tom Swift of Northfield and a Thomas Swift of St. Paul, and ne'er the twain shall meet.
To assert that biological evolution does not "create" attributes that are "harmful to the species as a whole" is to totally misunderstand evolution. There is no end game in evolution, and natural selection doesn't work at the species level, it works on the population level. But this debate is not about evolution.
Contrary to the author, I have not heard any arguments asserting that evolution has any bearing on the rights that our founding documents say were bestowed upon us by a...
I've never had a stopwatch as I watched Bachmann's talking head routine. The embedded video allowed an easy way to compare how much time each guest was given to make their case.
Sen. Gilibrand: 3 minutes, 21 seconds in 4 segments
Rep. Bachmann: 7 minutes, 8 seconds in 6 segments. She interrupted Sen. Gillbrand three times, the last time just 30 seconds into Gillibrand's response to a question, and talked for 42 seconds. David Gregory tried to break in a few times, but Bachmann...
Dennis Tester says of Herman Cain:
"He's seen as a friendly, outgoing conservative with private sector experience, a record of problem solving, and an actual plan that people understand. Message really does matter more than money."
And best of all, he's pro-choice!
"So what I’m saying is, it ultimately gets down to a choice that that family or that mother has to make. Not me as president. Not some politician. Not a bureaucrat. It gets down to that family. And whatever...
Sorry, Dennis, but Mr. Cain himself sent a clarification. He explained what he saw as the "thrust" of the question, and it was not abort vs. adopt.
“Yesterday in an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, I was asked questions about abortion policy and the role of the President. I understood the thrust of the question to ask whether that I, as president, would simply ‘order’ people to not seek an abortion. My answer was focused on the role of the President. The President has no...
If we can't trust Thomas Swift to give us the correct comedy reference, how can we believe his take on global climate change???!
"Bas-e-ball been bery, bery good to me" was Chico Escuaela (Garrett Morris) on SNL, not Cheech & Chong.
The Hollywood Reporter starts out with "Iowa Congresswoman Michele Bachmann...made some embarrassing gaffes..."
Easy mistake to make, I guess. We in the Sixth have always heard Michele say her hometown is Anoka, and now we have come to learn that she left her heart in Waterloo.
The video available on this post is from a later appearance, after Bachmann realized what she stepped in. Her delivery here is in a humorous vein.
The transcription that starts out this post is from an earlier version, the video of which doesn't show her as much in a "comedian" mode, but rather, soothsayer.
