The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat
and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one hand and a cold
drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig.

In Mr. Swifts comment suggesting another link as "evidence" Dr. Hickey wrote:

"An interesting aspect of this is that homosexuality actually does meet the APA’s present criterion for a mental illness! The criterion is: “… a clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual and that is associated with present distress…or disability…or with a significantly increased risk of suffering death, pain, disability or an important loss of...

Yes, actually providing the evidence suggested would be greatly appreciated, considering the history of the debate. I'm sure you have plenty to spare.

Posted on 03/22/11 at 12:45 pm in response to Education funding bill is packed with political dynamite

More than a third of Minneapolis students do not speak English at home.

We are a small high school for new immigrants in Minneapolis, and are extraordinarily successful at getting our graduates successful starts in community colleges and even 4 year colleges. Our graduates will be very productive taxpayers for generations to come.

What riles me the most is that we are in very steep competition with chartered diploma mills that dump graduates ill-prepared back on the streets...

Ms. Olson,

I am not sure why you say "sadly lacking". Teaching students to think critically and objectively, questioning power respectfully and peacefully, is a description of my work that i and many, many of my colleagues would be honored with, were it offered. The tone of discussion regarding American education has changed so much during my 28 year career it's difficult to recognize. The appreciation and admiration i still receive from my students and their families seems lost...

What is even more dramatic is that Bachmann is obviously closing the lead.

Craig Westover says:
"So then does it not follow that social security is a huge transfer of wealth from low-income people of color (who die younger) to wealthier white people (who live longer)? Doesn't social security rob low-income people of wealth they could pass on to their children, which the studies implies would make them healthier?"

Now there is a fine piece of logic. Cut the old poor off of social security so they die sooner and they can "pass on to their [ 'wealth' to...

Regarding the "argument" over "uppity". I am curious if any of those who profess innocent ignorance can site a white politician being called "uppity"?

Posted on 08/31/09 at 05:02 pm in response to Sen. Marty's lonely quest for a Minnesota Health Plan

This was a great article. I have come to believe that state-based single plans (as opposed to national) are not only the best fiscal solution but would make for the best health care, and are politically possible.

John Marty has become my hero.

I appreciate it that they dedicated so many hours to this issue.

As a Monday morning quarterback tho, i think they missed the most important recommendations. The ones i was hoping for was

- IRV (Instant Run-off Voting)

- OR an automatic run-off election by the top two candidates triggered by a very low percentage difference, say a half of one percent difference. This would have been the fair way to settle the resent senate contention and worth the cost.
