for the regular comment that "raising taxes is bad business" (even if it does pay for necessary public services. Isn't that why we have government, to provide such services? Will Mr. Golnik drive people to work himself if we don't raise taxes to pay for light-rail and other improvements, while he is busy creating jobs?)

Ms. Koch was a terrible legislative leader, as her actions regularly displayed contempt for the citizens; unless you were powerful leader AND a Republican, Ms. Koch would not meet with you nor deign to hear from you during her brief tenure as Majority Leader. I know she regularly refused to meet with clergy and faith leaders on issues that mattered to the people of the state, education, transportation, health care and racial equity.

She and her "team" were singularly devoted to the...

Posted on 09/07/12 at 12:13 pm in response to Obama refuses to make promises he isn’t sure he can keep

The election will be decided by whether the electorate again wants to delude itself that a politician like Romney can deliver on his non-specific, non-detailed promise to create 12 million jobs, or the President's established path (scheduled tax increase for high income earners, more infrastructure spending, reduced defense spending) that appears to be working, if slowly. What we fail to understand is how little impact the President actually has on the economy, as every President would have...

The press continues to act as if the readers care about Tim Pawlenty's constant pandering to the Republican power establishment, pandering he does for the sake of his own self-promotion. Most people in Minnesota don't care about him at all anymore (not that he was ever really popular here; he was twice elected with pluralities, never a majority of the voters, and most of those voting were voting against the other choices.)

I didn't listen to his speech, nor do I care what he says...

strikes me as very similar to Richard Nixon's secret plan to end the Vietnam War, so secret and sensitive that it could not be revealed prior to election, as it would compromise our troops and security. As history showed, his plan amounted to escalation, which failed, followed by unilateral withdrawalsix years later (which Republicans later railed was a "failure of our leaders to allow our troops to win the war" - evidently forgetting Nixon's escalation attempts to win the war, including...

Hard to believe that a summary of the weekend arts does not include a mention of Wilco, America's best rock and roll band, playing at Bayfront Park in Duluth Sunday and at Mayo Auditorium in Rochester on Monday.

Seems the Republicans don't like the Governor wielding the same veto pen that his predecessor was so proud of using to control the DFL Legislature? What a surprise.

I think Dayton has gone too far in trying to compromise with the Republican leadership on many other issues. Thankfully he's standing firm (so far) on the tax bill. I pray that he doesn't trade it off for the bonding bill. If the Republicans want to give us such a puny bonding bill, let them feel the rather of the...

I am proud of my Representative Ryan Winkler (D-St. Louis Park+Golden Valley) for voting against this bill at this time. As he stated, he doesn't want to lose the Vikings. But at the same time, this Republican majority shut down the State rather than tax the rich, and now they want the DFLers to take on the responsibility of funding a sport stadium for a billionaire? We have more important priorities in this state, like education, transit and tax fairness (i.e, the rich need to pay their...

Just another example of Pawlenty's poor analytical ability and decision-making. We are all better off with him out of the race. The country cannot afford to have him "lead", he is bereft of ideas or any governing ideology save "no tax increases", as his 8 years in Minnesota proved.

I've got to get multiple copies of this before Xmas! We've been waiting for this, the story that can now be told. Does it include pictures, like the spying from the bushes on the gay rights rally, or for sure delivering "the kiss" to President Bush (was she whispering a threat about future socialist acts?) Nothing left unsaid!

How many copies can I get for a contribution to the American Heritage Foundation? The Tea Party Express?

I am genuinely excited! Are there any...
