MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
Up or down vote, both chambers, and move on. Shouldn't take 20 minutes.
With colder than normal temperatures.
But seriously, why no positive reports of extended growing seasons, new crops that couldn't previously be grown here, etc.?
How can we contain and store all the increasing floodwaters to use during the increasing droughts? There is serious money to be made by answering that question.
Since our climate will be more like theirs it would be a simple place to start. It would seem like we would have less problems as we will have less days below freezing but I suppose it is the 28-34 degree swing days that cause the damage. Last year had very few of those freeze/thaw days, just ask the folks who make maple syrup.
We can just spend ourselves to death.
Who says that there aren't cost savings to be found in government?
By stopping the pipeline, we force the oil and refinery companies to find other ways to deliver their desirable product, ways that will involve Minnesota and it's workers. Thankfully President Obama alone decides Keystone's fate.
Will have just under 600 employees after the next wave of layoffs to be completed by this fall. "Closed" is probably not an accurate description of their present operation. There is still some production going on in Hutchinson but the plan is that the work moves to Thailand once that plant is up and running correctly after the Tsunami disaster. Corporate will remain in Hutchinson and I believe the R&D will remain there too.
One more than ZERO.
Is more people shooting their guns in self defense? I thought that at least a few people would be happy that it didn't become the predicted "Wild West" once conceal/carry became legal. Can't win either way. If there is a lot of shooting it's "we told you so" and if there is very little shooting it's "we told you it wasn't necessary".
The more likely the State will suffer if that money goes away. If we can't patch the hole that is left, should we take the chance in the first place? With an ever increasing Federal debt, cuts in spending become a necessity. Plan ahead to be safe and be solvent when other states go under.
