At least Sen. Bakk has sort of specific goals although there are no monetary figures.
How do I benefit by taking out a $300,000 mortgage, paying whatever five-figure annual mortgage payment to get a $5000 tax deduction?
That was easy.
Senator Marty failed to mention that the DFLers also all voted the same way 99.9% of the time, against the GOP. Hopefully one or two people in the new majorities will break ranks on some meaningful bill like the "Override Six" of a few years ago. Odds are, when push comes to shove, everyone does what Thissen and Bakk tell them to do and the Governor signs it.
The promises were to return ALL the money and the budget would be balanced without shifts and gimmicks.
That leaves less than half for everything else, of which the defense is only a portion.
Sadly, only a handful of countries decide who gets atomic weapons and it is unlikely that you will be granted one before whole other nations get theirs.
What other options should/could the school exercise? Make every other student drop and give them 20 pushups? The teachers?
I too would read a local article about the bloat going on at the U of M. I'm not sure the WSJ article even mentioned paying other schools to not play football with us...
Technically they may not have lost an election for enacting a gas tax increase (the Legislature did that) but not all of them were in office two years later primarily for their support of the increase.

If we addresssed our obesity epidemic it might help all of our starving people.
1. Define adequate in a manner that will satisfy the SCOTUS.
