Re: the photo that accompanies this article. I suspect that it's very misleading. Are there any shots available of the empty chairs that are hearing this reading?
@Paul Brandon:
How about providing a link or two?
I really don't remember any of the Sunday morning network "news" shows having as many members of the minority party on, on a weekly basis, expressing the opposition viewpoint, as frequently they do now, when GWB was in the White House.
My biggest concern: Why do 'the media' continually foist John McCain's opinions on us? He seems to be on the talking head shows on a weekly basis, doesn't he?
There are 99 other senators* -- my guess is that you can't name either of Wyoming'...
@Mitch Berg: Perhaps you'd prefer "der Strafkolonie"? ;)
@Randi Reitan: I've read Kersten's column for years (okay, so you caught me...I've rarely been able to get past the fourth or fifth paragraph, but I do always start with an honest "this time" intent), and I have a question for you, regarding your comment about "...a whole segment of our society":
Which one?
I read the St. Cloud article, and there's no mention of how much money this scheme would save the taxpayers of Minnesota. Nor does it mention what percentage of the $5-to-$9 billion shortfall this would address, though I suspect that "a thimbleful in an ocean" is a reasonable comparison.
Too, I'm not seeing how much of such reimbursement Mr. Emmer received during his tenure as a state representative. Perhaps he could release this information to the public, who paid it to him.

I got as far as her saying, "I think [bringing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York for a criminal trial in civilian court] is terrible, an absolutely terrible idea," without a follow-up question from the interviewer, something along the lines of, "Why do you think that?" or "What do you think will happen because of this?" when I realized that this was less an interview than a platform. The remainder of the article further established my observation as accurate.
Perhaps there were...
Just my personal observation, David, but I find that I spend an inordinate amount of time on the Strib site just trying to FIND things! It's the most poorly organized newspaper site that I regularly visit, and the search feature is for crap. The 20 minute figure doesn't surprise me a bit.
So, you're decrying George Will and Charles Krauthammer's cookie cutter approach? Have you ever read Kersten on a regular basis? Did you know there was going to be a quiz today? Yup. Here goes: Katherine Kersten's first column will be about:
(a) same-sex marriage (against);
(b) religious schools (against non-Christian ones);
(c) abortion (against);
(d) taxes (against);
(e) all of the above.
My money's on "a", even though it doesn't matter. If you...
