MinnPost is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
Donations and pledges totaling $25,000 or more have been made by each of the families and foundations listed. For a list of all donors by category, see our most recent Year End Report.
OK, the religious right has passed another anti-gay marriage amendments, but their efforts will all be in vain when Prop 8 (Perry V. Schwarzenegger) reaches the Supreme Court and the justices invalidate all of these unconstitutional state amendments...for the same reasons stated in the Iowa Supreme Court in Varnum V. Brien. The Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment are there to protect the rights of the minority from the votes of the majority.
Pretending to be something you're not - because you fear being condemned by society for what you are - is a great burden to go through life with. Now that his secret is out Brock can deal with life honestly now. Right or wrong, the outing of Brock has taken a great weight off his shoulders.
If people do not qualify for federally funded health care programs and there is no GAMC, are Republicans telling us that we should just let low-income people die? That can't be what they mean, so what are Republicans proposing that we do with sick people? Could a Republican tell me what am I missing here?
I haven't read how a military tribunal would be conducted, but if it's similar to a military court martial the defendants would have virtually the same rights as if tried in a civilian criminal court - including being given a Miranda type warning (see "Manual For Courts-Martial (2008) page 11-35).
The author (Mr. Bonafield) should have specified what rights defendants would have in a military tribunal (as opposed to a court martial) before making this statement in the article: "His...
#2 is correct, of course, in writing that contrary to David Brooks comment, we are militarily occupying two countries.
Perhaps Brooks can be forgiven for his misstatement. If you visit a college campus, if you go to church, if you go about your daily business, there just isn't any feel that we are at war – and worse yet, few seem to care – except those of us who have direct family connections to the wars.
Here is a comment from his Brooks’ friend Mark Shields:

It would be interesting to know what affect the national debt and eight years of unpaid for war will have on the Minnesota economy, given that no sales tax will be collected on Minnesota's share of debt repayment (via taxes).
The Bush administration had seven years to prosecute the 9/11 suspects and failed to do so in either a military or civilian court, yet we heard not an ounce of criticism from Republicans in Congress about the lack of prosecution. These Republicans have no moral authority to complain now about the course of prosecution Holder has chosen; they all need to sit down and shut their hypocritical mouths.
If a decision is made to continue the eight year war in Afghanistan, we must be given a clear definition of what victory in Afghanistan means; put another way, we must be told what goals have to be met in order to bring our service members home.
We must stop the “generational theft” of supplemental war funding (a Bush legacy that is being continued under Obama) that has placed the entire cost of both wars on our children and grandchildren. Are Bachmann, Kline and any others...
A seemingly obvious question: what steps do chain grocery stores (Cub, Rainbow, etc) take to ensure the quality of the meat they sell? Put another way, do those grocery stores require that their hamburger providers conduct E coli testing all along the hamburger manufacturing process?
The author - probably not an Army veteran - leaves the reader with questions in this poorly written article.
Since this is basically free advertising for Sgt. Thul's bid for the Owatonna city council, the author should have at least listed Thul's qualifications for that office - such as what jobs he's had that would give him the skills to help govern Owatonna (even listing his MOS's held in the Guard would have helped).
The author wrote that Thul has "spent most of his...
