Minneapolis ranks among top five most socially networked cities in U.S.

Charlie White at Mashable has pointed up a research study by Men's Health of the most socially networked cities in the nation.

Predictably, Washington, D.C. -- where being connected is the name of the game -- came out on top. More surprising was New York city's position at 53rd -- far below Minneapolis, which ranked fourth, and St. Paul, which ranked 29th.

Over in neighboring Wiscosin, Madison ranked 15th and Milwaukee ranked 45th.

Men's Health calculated the rankings using the number of Facebook and LinkedIn users per capita, overall Twitter usage, traffic generated by the major social networks -- including Myspace, Friendster, Reddit and Digg -- and factoring in the percentage of households that visit chat rooms and blogs.
