Mom’s Day jazz brunches

Readers may recall our jazz brunch suggestions for Easter, which wasn’t that long ago.

Readers may recall our jazz brunch suggestions for Easter, which wasn’t that long ago. Mother’s Day is another big brunch occasion, so here’s what we know for this Sunday.

Kozy’s in the Galleria. Charmin Michelle will sing, Denny Malmberg will play. Warm, intimate, feel-good music in a spacious and comfortable room. Afterward, let Mom do a little shopping in the mall. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kozy’s Steaks & Seafood, 952-224-5866.

Tryg’s on West Lake Street. Mother’s Day Buffet lasts all day. Really, you have no excuse. Davina Sowers of Davina and the Vagabonds will sing. If you eat too much, you can walk it off around nearby Lake Calhoun. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tryg’s, 612-920-7777.

Dakota on Nicollet Mall. The mother-daughter team of pianist Jeanne Arland Peterson and singer Patty Peterson will perform with their good friend Irv Williams (“Mr. Smooth”) on saxophone. All three are Minnesota treasures. Chef Jack Reibel has conjured a meal that starts with a first-course buffet and ends with beignets. 10:30 a.m., Dakota, 612-332-1010.

Hell’s Kitchen on South 9th. Hell is fully booked for Mother’s Day. If you don’t have reservations you’ll have to stand in line, but Mom may think it’s worth it to hear the great Robert Robinson, gospel singer extraordinaire. Brunch from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., music starts at 10. Hell’s Kitchen, 612-332-4700.

Finally, for you very late risers (who knows, Mom may stay out until all hours on Saturday night):

Mainstreet Bar & Grill in Hopkins. There’s no special menu or buffet and it’s not even billed as a Mother’s Day event, but it’s Mother’s Day until midnight so you can call it what you want. Dinner will be served, Doug Haining and his Twin Cities 7 will perform, and a good time will be had by all. Music from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mainstreet Bar & Grill, 952-938-2400.
