The ongoing effort to raise money for the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center continues today with a 2 p.m. rally in Minneapolis.

Mayor R.T. Rybak and County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin will join emcee Don Shelby in the lot between the Shubert Theater and the Hennepin Center for the Arts, on Hennepin Av. between 5th and 6th Sts.

There will be brief performances by the hip-hop crew The Battle Cats and ARENA Dances.

Officials say more than $36 million has been raised to finish the complex, which is being planned as “a flagship center for dance.” They need $2 million to $2.5 million more so they can start construction this summer.
