As the 16th annual Minnesota Fringe Festival races to its Sunday close, organizers are amazed by how smooth things have gone so far. The biggest hurdle, in fact, has been the numbers of folks coming out for shows.
“We’ve been calculating and recalculating how many tickets we have on hand –and there’s a bit of a possibility we may have to use leftover ’08 ticket stock on Sunday — just because the number of tickets we’re issuing might exceed our original projections,” says Fringe Communications Director Matthew Stafford.
Attendance over the first weekend was up 19 percent from last year, and there have been plenty of long lines to get in to this year’s hot shows.
The final weekend offers the last chance to see these creations, either in their previously scheduled slots, or — if the show is tops in attendance for the venue — a special bonus show Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. Those performances will be announced Saturday.
