‘Darwin for the Day’ concert at Macalester

Perhaps you’re unaware that 2009 is the bicentennial of the birth of Charles Darwin. The folks in Shrewsbury, the English hometown of the great naturalist, marked the event with an event at the annual Shrewsbury Folk Festival called “The Darwin Song Project.”

Eight artists were commissioned to spend a week working on a presentation of songs, sketches and stories for the festival that was held last March. And now one of them is bringing excerpts from the festival to St. Paul for a performance on Friday at Macalester College.

Krista Detor, an American folk singer from Indiana, is presenting “Darwin for the Day” as a benefit for the nonprofit Fresh Energy Minnesota.

The Friday performance is at 7 p.m. in Weyerhaeuser Chapel at the college. Tickets are $20, with $12 of that amount qualifying as a donation. Go here for details.
