The Lake Wobegon Brass Band will play a holiday concert Friday night to benefit Families Moving Forward, a group that provides emergency housing and helps families find affordable places to live.

The 7 p.m. concert is at Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina. A free will donation will be accepted to help the emergency shelter program.

The band — and, yes, members say they do have permission from Garrison Keillor to use the name — is based in Anoka and is described as a British Brass Band.

The band’s website says the name was chosen because Keillor also hails from Anoka. When they asked him about using the Lake Wobegone name, they say he responded:  “I’m happy to give my permission. The only condition is that you will let me know when the band is formed … and that at some mutually convenient time, you’ll play at a picnic for me. Good Luck.”
