After peppering the media with press releases since the middle of summer, the moment of truth has arrived for the producers of “Junior Claus.” The piece opens next week at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center in an already crowded holiday-show season.

The piece, written by Christopher Dimond and featuring music by Michael Kooman, tells the tale of a Christmas when a foot injury sidelines Santa and his young son must step up to the plate to keep the gift-giving from being canceled.

Area director Steve Barberio, whose long list of credits includes 16 years at Stages Theater Company in Hopkins, helms the show. The cast is led by Brian Skellenger, whose local credits include turns at the Guthrie, Mixed Blood and “High School Musical” at the Children’s Theater Company.

“Junior Claus” runs Dec. 10-17 at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center, 12600 Nicollet Ave., Burnsville. Tickets are $32 for adults and $21.50 for youth and seniors. For information and tickets, call 952-895-4680 or go online.
