Illusion presents premiere of Willa Cather-inspired play

Playwright Allison Moore brings Willa Cather’s vibrant character of Antonia Shimerda to life on the stage in the world premiere of “My Antonia,” running Friday to March 20 at the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis.

Developed during the theater’s 2009 “Fresh Ink” series, the play examines Cather’s tale of 1880s immigration through the eyes of Jim Burden, who returns to the small prairie town he left 20 years before to see Antonia.

The cast includes Katie Guentzel, John Catron, Brian Goranson, Beth Gilleland, Angie Haigh, and Molly Sue MacDonald, who will be supported by musicians performing music by Roberta Carlson. Illusion Theater Producing Director Michael Robins will direct.

“My Antonia” runs Feb. 19 to March 10 at the Illusion Theater, 8th floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts, 528 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis. Tickets are $25. For tickets and more information, call 612-339-4944 or visit online.
