Familiar names taking over Chanhassen Dinner Theatres

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres have been sold. The new ownership group is topped off by a pair of names that will be familiar to the theater’s patrons: Artistic Director Michael Brindisi and Tamara Kangas Erickson, who has choreographed numerous shows at Chanhassen (and around the Twin Cities).

The move ends several years of activity at the dinner theater complex. Previous owner Thomas K. Scallen had explored options of moving, including to the Mall of America and Burnsville, before signing a new lease to remain at its present location. After that, the former owners began to look for a new buyer.

Joining Brindisi and Erickson as a front-line owner is Steven Peters, president of VenuWorks, an Iowa-based firm that provides management for performing arts facilities, including the local Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

No definite plans for changes, or shows beyond the current “Footloose,” have been announced. Chanhassen employs about 300 people, from actors to wait staff and draws well more than 100,000 patrons a year.
