New on my dance radar: Al-Bahira Middle Eastern Dance Theater, a Twin Cities-based troupe of women who perform Raqs as-sharqi (belly dance), folk dances of the Middle East, Greece, Turkey and North Africa, something called “belly-dance fusion” and more contemporary theatrical works.

Curious? The women take the stage this Saturday night, July 10, at the Ritz Theater in a performance that concludes a workshop. Featured on the program is Artemis Mourat, a Maryland-based dance teacher and scholar of Greek and Turkish descent, who is known as a master Turkish and Rrom (“gypsy”) dance artist.

For the performance, artistic director and choreographer Mirah Ammal has programmed ethnic and contemporary dance from the Middle East, Turkey, North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Americas.

Al-Bahira Dance Theater. 8 p.m. Saturday, July 10, Ritz Theater, Minneapolis. Tickets $18. 612-436-1129.
