Eclectic Edge Ensemble gaining traction

Since first performing at the 2002 Fringe Festival, Karis Sloss’ Eclectic Edge Ensemble has been forging a presence on the Twin Cities dance scene by filling the jazz-dance niche.

Since first performing at the 2002 Fringe Festival, Karis Sloss’ Eclectic Edge Ensemble has been forging a presence on the Twin Cities dance scene by filling the jazz-dance niche. For this weekend’s concert at the Ritz Theater EEE infuses jazz dance with a sportif motif: The show is titled “For Sport’s Sake” and infuses Sloss’ choreography with a playful physicality.

The pieces are meant to explore such questions as: In our sports-saturated culture, can soccer (for example) save the world? Why does it matter who hosts the Olympics? And are sports figures prone to more scandal than the average jock?  That’s the second half of the show.

The first half of the evening includes new works by Sloss and a world premiere by local jazz dance legend Zoe Sealy.
